Duct tape question for MacGyver fans

Sep 16, 2009 16:50

Yesterday, my husband came home with his son, after a day working on a concrete job.  He said "you'll never believe what the kid did today!"  (the kid is 42).   The saw which cuts thru concrete has to be started by the pull start type of thing that starts some lawn mowers, if you know what I mean. You have to yank on it hard.   (I watched them for ( Read more... )

This is a list of all the MacGyverisms from each episode. You can search for all the times he used 'tape'... more often than not, it will be of the 'duct' variety! ;-)

Off of the top of my head I can give you some:

Built an airplane out of bamboo, duct tape, heavy duty trash bags, and the motor of a cement mixer (Legend of the Holy Rose)

Tie up bad guys (Partners, For Love or Money)

Attach diaper to a baby sans safety pins (Rock the Cradle)

Made little fertilizer grenades with duct tape, newspaper, and chair stuffing. (Last Stand)

That's all I can think of at the moment... being called away to do some troubleshooting of my own! lol!

Thank you!
When I click on that and search either tape or duct tape, I only get a very few actual episode hits--the one I remembered, and a couple of others, not including most of the ones you mentioned. I guess the duct tape part of the episode wasn't distinctive enough to get a connection.

But thanks for the link and I'll browse around there--maybe even pull out my MacGyver dvds--they're fun, though when I want an RDA fix I'm more likely to choose Jack than Mac. Love them both, though.

Thanks again!

Hey Melissa, try this site - and then just search the page for "duct tape". Looks like there are a handful of episodes where he uses duct tape.

Sorry to be dense, but when you say "search the page" is there a search engine sort of thing that you can type in duct tape? Because I'm not finding it. I tried clicking the search button on the left hand side but didn't then find a place to put in duct tape.

Just skimming thru this list, I do see some, it's just that there are so many, many episodes and not enough time in my day to look thru these. I appreciate your link, though.

I'm kind of surprised that there were no more duct tape uses than there seem to have been--I always enjoy his ingenious ways out of problems--his SAK is often seen, but duct tape, not as often as one might assume.

Thanks!

Oh, sorry, I should have explained that better. You can just press the [CTRL] and [F] keys and a "Find" toolbar will display (in Firefox it's on the bottom, in Internet Explorer it is on the top of the browser I think). Then just type in your search term! Works on any web page; a handy little tool! :)

Hmm...I always thought it was another type of tape, not 'duct tape'?
He always tore it off with his teeth/hands, which is quite hard to do with the 'duct tape' I'm thinking of, which has a fabric component... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duct_tape
But in any case, it's a wonderful plot device. :-)
That reminds me, I should dig out my DVDs and start rewatching MacGyver again... :-D

Giving it more thought, duct tape probably would not be easy to "cut", just with your teeth, though that's how I rememeber MacGyver doing it in an early episode when he's patching his hot air balloon with his map, held on by duct tape. But then Mac is special, he can do all sorts of things! Or maybe he uses his Swiss Army Knife to cut off strips of it as needed. I should get out some of my dvds and rewatch, too! I do have a SAK, thanks to a fan who was selling her collection, so I got her knife. It's fun to have something that Mac uses so often.

I read that wiki article, thanks--do you suppose part of the thing is that you are in Australia, and the article says your Duct tape is not the same as America's? (I'm in the U.S., in northwest Missouri, right in the middle of the country--in fact, a Midwesterner, as RDA identifies himself, though he's from Minnesota).

Fun food for thought, anyway. I guess you saw the other comments, above, that point you to other episodes with duct tape?

Mm, the article does imply that *all* Aussies think duct tape is a plastic tape..whereas I'm an Aussie, but I never thought that! Hence my comment. ;-)
Ah well, quibbling over details. Whatever it's called, it's a neat product. :-)
