I got some good feedback when I first posted these and I have tried to incorporate it below.  Rules 6 and 7 got reworked and I added a 6a as a modifier to 6.  I did not thank everyone who contributes last time but I did appreciate the feedback ( Read more... )

9) If you can't follow these rules you may be eaten by a Grue.

Pity these are friends locked, I'd like to share them with some people.

Many people fail to follow these rules, myself included at times, so feeding folks to Grues is probably excessive. Besides it probably violates rule 5.

No longer friends locked, I do that by default and there really is no need to in this case.

I was using respect in the original version of 6 and Phil suggested courtesy was a better fit. 6a seemed to flow naturally from the change.

That's better. 'Courtesy' implies no more than politeness to which we all have a right, 'respect' has very different implications, including that you might actually think this person is talking sense/has a brain/has opinions that are worth something. (All of which may or may not be the case.) The first is about the manner in which you deal with people, the second is about actual feelings.

(Not that I haven't broken most/all of these rules at some stage but I agree they are a GOOD THING.

Oh, I have broken all or most of these at one time or another. However by posting them I hope to remind myself that it annoys me if other people break them and thus encourage myself not to be a hypocrite. It might even work.

Phil's suggestion was a definite improvement on what I had originally written for six.
