Locked to other-worlders

For that boy who was in my grandfather's body the other day . . . he's fine. He doesn't remember anything. I'd say you were lucky.

I shouldn't have snapped at you. [This bit is typed, but then erased.]

Seems like there was an interesting incident the other day in which a woman claims her body was frozen in place by Siegmund Heissenrech as he ( Read more... )

Primarily what I said. Apparently Mr. Heissenrech and this girl were shopping together at the Quik Mart. There was some kind of altercation as they were leaving, and Mr. Heissenrech, according to witnesses, apparently saw fit to grab the girl by the throat and throw her against the wall. A woman -- one LaDonna Williams -- went to help and pull him off her. He made some form of gesture, and, according to her account, froze her completely in place. Couldn't move a muscle. Meanwhile the girl punched him in the jaw and ran off. He took off after her, and no one else followed. Ms. Williams became "unstuck" shortly afterward.

Hm -- that sounds dangerously like innuendo.

Would you like a real answer, or would you like me to make up one of my own?

I thought you all were trying not to attract attention?

Ah, but that was a question to you. Do you find it fascinating?

Whether or not I do, I suppose, is immaterial.

[... Oh god that is Dick's "Boss" and best friend. BRB grounding Dick until he's 30.]

I wasn't aware Siegmund had that kind of power. Dick never mentioned anything about it, at least...

How many incidents like this have happened since you were aware of our presence?

I've noticed your kind tends to come rather without warning, if it's any comfort. Haven residents don't have that kind of ability.

Direct incidents? None. Indirect incidents? Plenty. Sightings of strange creatures are the most common. Rumors of people who fly, strange powers.

Then there was that night when two prisoners inexplicably escaped, only to be found later in the woods -- one missing an entire arm.

They sound almost like something out of a comic book. ... I wouldn't be surprised if the local comic book store played it up for publicity.

... Hmm. Undoubtedly, the shards played a role in the latter incident. [how much, he's not aware, but it's best to play Captain Obvious for a while.]

What do you plan to write up in the paper? That it was a publicity stunt?

I wouldn't know. I was rather forcibly removed from the event.

Depends upon what kind of information I get, I suppose. Any preferences, Mr. Wayne?

[It rings just moments after Siegmund read this post, in fact. This damage control thing is new to him and he's cursing his lack of forethought and wondering how to handle it or whether silence on the matter might be the best course of action after all.]

[The phone in his room rings. Still blindsided and a little stunned by the post, he reaches over to answer it, not sure what to expect. The phone's an extension, but anybody who would be calling his room extension directly would probably be calling his cell instead; it's probably patched through from the main line.]

Hello?

[The woman's voice on the other end is calm, focused.]

Siegmund Heissenrech?

Yes. [He leans back in the chair, glancing at the post on his screen.] Who is this?

Fuu Fukuyama, from the Haven Tides.

I have a few questions for you, Mr. Heissenrech, if you'd be so kind.

[Oh good. Here have an awkward and relieved Adam.] I'm glad. I was worried about him. I wasn't sure whether it would've been okay for me to check up on him.

[After a small pause.] Um... If there's anything I can do for him, please let me know. I feel like it's the least I can do to make up for what happened.
