I'd be a liar if I said I didn't own any RE merchandise. I've got some action figures, some strategy guides...stuff like that. But, I don't think owning any of those things should be a deciding factor in my status as a fan of the series. I play the games and I like them. I think that should be enough.
Things are getting way out-of-hand as of late concerning all this fangirl/fanboy (especially fangirls...jeez) bullshit. If you feel the need to devote your time, your money, your life to a game series or character, then you are PATHETIC ( ... )

Me too. I own an RE4 keychain. I really love it. It was a great gift. But I wouldn't have spent my money on it if I had a choice between the last of my food and the fact that I could get it o_O;;
And you're also right about the rational and the insane, and I swear, if I only played RE because I thought Wesker was hot, I would know there was no hope for myself.
And YES! What is it that gives FanGIRLS so much worse of a rep than fanGUYS!? I mean seriously. A guy is allowed to drool all over a pixel girl all he wants and nothing's wrong. But a girl drools over a guys muscle, and she's suddenly weird. I KNOW some of it rubs off from other people being all stupid, but um, eh, yeah, it's not fair, at ALL.
