The cell was dark. It was dark, but it was different.
The darkness found in the cell was not dark enough so that one could not see anything because if one were to get accustomed to it, faint outlines of objects could be seen, but at the same time, it was so dark that it was suffocating. Stifling. Intoxicating. So… depressingly overwhelming that any person in the room would soon slip away into the boundaries of insanity if left there too long.
But the cell was not only dark, it was musty and dirty as well. Layers and layers of dust settled on everything, and the odor of blood, urine and disease stunk so bad that it would be a miracle if it did not escape from the cell and into the hallway of many other cells. It was simply a place no living being should be in.
However, there were people in the world who were cruel enough to leave something alive in an area of such conditions. It was a fact that could not be denied as slight movement from something in the cell proved that life still occupied the horrible place, trapped there as the lock on the only entrance and exit of the room indicated.
A young, dirty boy, that appeared to be just barely older than the age of eighteen awoke with a start, having not recognized his surroundings just yet. The details of the cell and the uncomfortable, cold bed he was lying in soon sank in though, and Kamenashi Kazuya could only clench his fists and let a few tears escape his eyes as he rocked back and forth, thinking of many things at once.
How long had he been in the cell? How long was he going to be stuck in here? Was anyone going to save him? How did he get here?
Those were the few of the many questions that ran through his head, but the last one listed stuck to him the most. How did he get himself into this awful place? He did not know for he did not remember what had happened after he had gotten out the so-called “Monoshuttle” his people had forced him into. He could only faintly recall the door of his ship closing behind him and intense light shining on his entire being, blinding him just before a sharp sting on his arm had somehow knocked him out.
When he had finally arisen for the first time, it was in this dark, terrifying place he woke up in.
-
The sound of chain’s jingling and locks clicking open registered in Kame’s worn mind as the boy tensed slightly upon hearing footsteps entering his cell. He could not see who his supposed visitors were as his back was turned and his body was curled up on the battered and dirty cot that he was previously resting in. He did not dare to turn around though, and forced his body to relax, closing his eyes to pretend to be deep in slumber.
Whether the people bought his act or not, Kame did not know. They simply nudged him sharply at his side, making the boy whimper before slowly opening his eyes to adjust to the light that had escaped into the room when the cell opened. Looking up with hesitance, Kame saw three men standing in front of him, all in strange white gowns and wore masks over their face. More people stood by the door, Kame noticed, as he took in the rest of his disturbed surroundings.
One of the men waved at the people at the door, and two other men stepped out, dressed exactly like the other three. Moving to both sides of the boy, they reached out and took Kame’s arm, making the boy flinch. At first, Kame thought they were going to help him get up. At first, he thought they were going to let him go. But all those hopes vanished the moment the hands around his arms locked tightly in place, preventing any movement. Another person broke from the crowd by the door, holding a tray out in front of him as he walked towards the three men standing in front of Kame. One of them reached out to take a thin injection needle out of the tray, advancing towards Kame with confident steps.
The boy’s eyes widen in fear, and he began to struggle, despite being unable to move with the two men holding him down. He kicked and screamed and pulled, doing anything he could to try to get the men to release him. However, the two men only stayed in place and waited until Kame used what was left of his energy and stopped struggling. The man with the needle bent down to Kame’s level and motioned for the man on Kame’s left to bring the boy’s arm forward.
Without making a sound, Kame felt the man move his arm, positioning it right below the needle. In less than a second, the boy felt a slight sting in his arm as the needle sunk in his flesh, injecting some kind of chemical that was already taking affect as Kame felt his body numb. He was slowly subsiding into unconsciousness, but he was still well aware that the two men holding him down were already picking him up and bringing him out of his cell.
They took him to a white, bright room that strangely could mirror the horror of his own dark cell he had been staying in, tying his body up on top of a hard, white table that felt extremely foreign and uncomfortable under his body. There were no talks, no conversation except for a few sounds that the people would make to give commands to one another. He did not understand them. Kame did not know what they did to him after that as his drowsy mind had already shut down and he drifted off into a state of deep, dreamless sleep.
-
…And upon waking up after those little trips he had, he would always be back in his cell, and though he did not remember anything, his body would be full of cuts and bruises and marks. He would still be numb though, and it would take quite a while before all his senses came back, making his muscles sore and ache. After, he would crawl towards the door and eat the stale bread and drink the tap water that his captors had at least bothered to give him.
The same activity continued every once in a while. It wasn’t everyday, and it wasn’t every other day- Kame had no clue as to how long it was in between the period of time that the men in white would take him to the terrifying white room. He could only rely on his instincts to predict when the men were coming, though he was powerless to stop whatever they did to him.
By now, he had lost track of how many times he had been taken out, blacked out, dreamt of home, and then only to wake up to find himself stuck in what seemed to be a never ending nightmare. Just like many other things the boy did not remember, he could barely remember his homeland, even though he had dreamt of it. His dreams were fuzzy, and he did not remember most of them, only knowing that they were of comfort, of protection, and of safety. But he could remember bits and pieces, especially the voices and conversation that had taken place before he had boarded that cursed ship.

“-are to investigate this planet called Earth, Kamenashi. I believe I have chosen the right person for the job, and I am expecting many things from you,” a commanding, raspy voice of an old man echoed through his head.
“I… Sir, I do not think this is the wisest choice…” he own voice echoed back, uncertain and with a hint of fear.
“No, no,” the voice was firm. “It has already been decided. For the sake of our planet, we must send someone out there, and YOU have been chosen.”
“…Very well, sir,” the boy heard himself agree grudgingly.
-
He did not remember the main purpose of why he was sent to this horrible planet called Earth anymore. He just knew he wanted to go back, he needed to go back.
As he drifted off to sleep again, he wondered if he could have just killed himself to spare him from the torture. Help…

“…Mmm… Shut up, Pi…” a sleeping man mumbled as he snuggled closer to the pillow he was hugging. The consistent banging on his door was annoying, but the man ignored it in favor of staying in his warm, soft bed. He knew he should get up and open the door for his best friend, but he was simply too tired from volunteering at the orphanage last night. Pulling the covers over his head to cover his ears, the sounds of fists pounding on a wooden door was only muffled slightly.
“Akanishi Jin! You will open this door now, or I’ll tell your father that you are neglecting your duties.” A pause. “And I’ll set Ryo on you, instead of covering up your mess, the next time you eat his food.”
The last line immediately set the alarms in Jin’s head off as the man had jumped up and attempted to reach the door only to crash into a pile of clothes, books, and goodness knows what, ending up as a tangled mess on the floor. “Wait!” There was a yelp as another crash was heard from attempting to get up again. After a few thumps and some cursing later, Jin finally made it to the door and opened it to smile sheepishly at his best friend. “Hey, Pi.”
However, Jin was only greeted with a glare as Yamashita Tomohisa (also known as Yamapi, courtesy of his friends) stood there, arms crossed with an irritated look on his face. “Don’t ‘hey, Pi’ me when you aren’t even ready for the goddamned meeting, Bakanishi!”
“…What meeting?” was the only reply he got, followed by a yawn.
Yamapi could only gap at Jin in disbelief. “You mean you forgot about the meeting with the Station Council today of all days?!” He waved his arms to show his growing frustration. “Jin, if you had forgotten about a meeting with the team, okay, fine, we understand you are an idiot. If you had forgotten about a meeting with your dad, fine. But you just had to go and forget about the meeting with the Station Councils today, which is not fine!”
Jin only stared at his friend until the words finally made sense in his still half-asleep head. “…Oh,” he mumbled, blinking. “Oh. Shit, I completely forget about that.”
“Well, yeah. I would yell at you more, Jin, but we don’t have time.” He shoved Jin back into his room, making the man emit a loud ‘ow!’ in return. “Change! Now.”
--
The door to Akanishi Jin’s room opened much more quietly this time as the man behind the door emerged dressed in black jeans, a white tank top with a black jacket hurriedly thrown over the tank. A few chain necklaces hung around his neck. Biting his lips in a small display of nervousness, Jin looked at Yamapi. “You ready?” he asked.
Yamapi nodded and straightened up from leaning on the wall. “You?” When Jin did not reply, he raised an eyebrow. “Oi, you there?”
“Y-yeah I’m ready, just a bit nervous,” Jin answered, a waver in his voice that was quickly covered up by his next statement, “Now let’s go before Massu decides to eat all the food by himself. We can’t have that, you know. I have to eat too.”
Yamapi snorted, muttering something under his breath before lightly smacking Jin in the head. “Shut up,” he said half-heartedly. “And be nice to him,” the man added as an after thought, regarding his grinning friend with an amused, yet stern look.
“Hai, hai, Pi-Mama~” he snickered. “You going now?”
Shaking his head, Yamapi waved for Jin to take the lead, jokingly responding with an, “After you, son” before extending his arm out in a mocking manner.
Sighing more so to himself than to his friend, Jin ignored the arm and took a step, his body straightening, and his facial expression turned into a guarded one, with a ghost of a smirk lingering there. The usual air of confidence returned to the man as he walked out of his apartment with his best friend trailing behind him.

So that concludes the first chapter of Hesitate (ha, I''m oh so original). XD I'm sorry, it's so short and probably boring. T_T I haven't written anything properly for months. And this is my first time officially writing Akame.
For those of you who remember me asking about Special Happiness, I apologize. It won't be out for a long time, if not at all. I have the first chapter and random chapter (prologue? o0) down, but I don't like the first chapter. It seemed too fake to me, so I'm planning to re-write it. XD Sorrrrrryyyyyy~ \(^_^")/
If you spot any mistakes or have have suggestions or questions, feel free to comment~ Constructive criticism is always welcomed.
Comments are love! Thank you~
