The Final Harrys

I know this comm is about mostly the books, but have you heard?  Last Harry Potter Book Becomes 2 Films

I think it's great that they are splitting it into two movies in order to NOT have to cut things from the book. My interest in Harry re-kindled (and this a day after I got rid of my Harry Potter icon from my user pics!), I went looking up the ( Read more... )

I think it's great that they're doing this! My mother and I have always thought that the last 3 books needed to be split into two films.

And I personally like David Yates. I really like what he did with OOtP. He deffinitely has a way of making these boosk seems dark, like they have become, not all light and cheery.

But that's just me (:

I don't mind the darkness. And I am willing to give him a second chance with Half-Blood Prince. I just felt like OotP was a very *emotional* book, and the movie seemed kinda choppy and fast-paced.

but that's just ME ;)

It was too fast-paced. I hate that they left soo much out of it.

They had to, though. It was already over two hours as it was. If they had left much more in they would have had to have made it into two movies (something I wish they would have done starting with book 4, actually, but you can't have everything).

I wanted Joss Whedon too! :D

I don't think splitting the last book into two films will help to fit everything in - if anything it will be used to have more fun action scenes and things not in the books and is probably a ploy to make money :/.

The last few films suffered from a lack of detail/proper scripting/editing e.t.c. For eg. in GoF details about the map and the marauders that could've been included were left out and the scene with the dragon was extended and silly (it crawling about on the roof. It can fly for crissakes!)

I may be coming off as a complete cynic, and yes i am, but i also think that complicated books can be made into great films which stick to the spirit of the novels (LotR anyone?). Hopefully Yates learned something with OotP and these last few films kick some ass :).

"GoF details about the map and the marauders that could've been included were left out "

I'm still bitter about that!

Yeah that really irked me, because it could have been added in so quickly and easily, just a few lines of dialogue here and there...I'm also annoyed at the lack of development in the Sirius/Harry relationship on-screen. I'm not sure how i'd have felt about certain events in film 5 if i'd been only watching and not reading (that's me trying to avoid mentioning spoilers :)).

My husband didn't read the books until after DH came out. I spent soooo much time telling him back story to help him love the characters more.

I'm rather leery of splitting it up, more the how are they going to accomplish two stand alone movies than anything else.

Maybe the first one focusing on them travelling and Ron storming off, ending as they reunite, then the second one the rest of the book?

Interesting cut off point. I think that sounds like a good suggestion.

I'm afraid that non-readers will forget what happened in the last one what with the longish gao between the two movies. I would have prefered and happilly sat through one three and a half hour movie (come on, look at Titanic, it's three and a half hours and the biggest moneymaker in America of all time! Nothing else touches it!) I really liked Order of the Phoenix (it's one of my favorite books too!) and am realy looking forward to David Yates finishing out the series.

I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I really enjoyed the movie version of OotP. It's not one of my favorite books, and I think it needed a heavier editing hand in the first place. As a comic book reader, I've been keeping up with Joss Whedon's work of late, as well (whenever there's some available), and I think a better editor could do him some good as well. He kind of just writes whatever he wants to because he thinks it looks or sounds cool, and the story suffers.
