Well - maybe if modify your comment a little it would be less likely to get reported? I found your journal from your comment on a friend's read journal, and honestly? My first reaction to your comment wasn't positive - it seemed simultaneously robot-like, confusing, and a little creepily invasive. In reality, the project is interesting, simple, and not at all invasive. So a couple of recommendations to individualize and reassure readees:

1. Copy and paste the one liner that you put about the journal into the comment on their journal, giving them greater review.
2. Continue to assure people that you will delete the comment and the one liner, should they ask. You could just leave the journal name and something like "review deleted at user request" in your list.
3. Say something more in the generic comment text to convince them that it's an honor to be read.

Just a couple of ideas, cuz again - you've created a cool project here, and I hope you can continue. Good luck!

Did anybody else get this impression? I didn't at all.

My impression (I'm behind one of the RPG journals that came up in the Johannesburg update) did include the first two there -- robot-like and confusing. But I didn't find it creepily invasive; the posts were public, after all. I more had a kind of "...what the hell," and then once I followed the link to check out what the deal was, I was pleasantly intrigued. But I imagine not everyone is going to be patient enough to give it a chance, read up, and see what's going on.

Seconding what ldthomps said, though: I think that putting something in the comment assuring that it's not an attempt to spam or solicit, and it will be taken down upon request, may help. The information is in the explanatory post, yes, but I don't think everyone makes it that far, unfortunately.

Fortunately, some people do make it to the Mission Statement before passing judgment. I'm glad you did.

Though I realize that you want an absolute 'rule' as to what qualifies as spamming activity, there is no concrete rule that can be given.

Fuck that mess. How can you be expected to follow a rule that isn't clear? The TOS need a serious re-write.

Seriously. Things have changed in LJ land lately.

And looking through the TOS I haven't found anything about mass unsolicited contact of other users.

The TOS doesn't say much about any of the rules they've been enforcing lately. I suppose we're expected to know about the rules through hearsay and gossip sites?

I hate that I regret paying for my LJ. I don't use many of the perks - I only did it because I wanted to support the site. I wouldn't suggest a permanent account to you now. They won't refund that money if they decide to delete you.
