You did look awesome; I just commented on Charis's pictures that you all looked terrific but that I particularly liked the Arisaid--you don't see them done very often at Ren fairs, let alone done right. You can't tell in any of the pictures that you fudged the pleating.
Yeah, it's really hard to find summer weight tartan. I almost never do Scottish attire in the summer. Part of it is that Scotland just never gets that warm--it's pretty far north and while it doesn't really get that cold, either because of the Gulf stream, it really doesn't get that hot, either. When we went there for our honey moon, end of August beginning of September (when it was still plenty hot in Michigan, let me tell you), the highs in Scotland were typically in the 70's. And if you remember that the era when Arisaids were worn was a mini ice age... yeah, well, it makes sense that the clothing isn't really the comfortable in the summer.
Thanks, Zanna! That means a lot, coming from you. :)
It was surprisingly cool for most of the day, and rain was forecast but never showed up(well, it showed up late that night & hasn't left yet, but not while we were out at the faire). I don't know that I'll wear the arisaid if we go to Scarborough again because it'll probably be much hotter in a couple weeks.
Charis & I have talked about trying out some of the other renfests around here and some of them happen in the fall, which would be better for wearing the arisaid.
