I feel for you. My Nacho is old and frail, but he always seems to be more old and frail on Sundays. (My vet has rather long Saturday hours, so that is not prime crisis time, from a feline perspective) He's on superspecial food, and I had to take in my aunt's cat, so now *everybody* is on superspecial food . . . Since I'm here, I wanted to say I do read your posts here, even if you are feeling abandoned on LJ for AO3 and Tumblr.
*hug*. I'm not really feeling abandoned. I just mostly post my fic on ao3 now and use this for journaling purposes. Yeah they do have an exquisite sense of when to need a vet, don't they. Zara's crowning achievement was a leg injury at 6 pm on new years eve.
My personal best was when my daughter's kitty picked Labor Day (it's about a week after summer Bank Holiday) to take a shower curtain hook to the eye. The catch here is our family tradition in which we can't really afford medical care for ourselves or our offspring, but will cover vet bills for their pets. My mom helped me out with my chronically asthmatic cat in my impoverished student days, and now it is my turn. For my kid, she was her own for her kidney stones, but I made sure her kitten was taken care of.
Since everything can (or should) be related to Supernatural, and the topic is expensive medical care - how much more boring would SPN/SPN fandom be if it were set in an UHC environment? So much fic revolves around Sam and Dean using their fake identities to access medical care, or the boys treating each others' injuries to bypass the system.
to take a shower curtain hook to the eye aaaah! S/he lost the eye I guess? was it ok? What's UHC? Universal Health Care? They still tend to ask a lot of questions. The writers could probably get some decent mileage out of ever-more-creative explanations for their injuries. I live in the UK so health care is free at point of access (though if it isn't urgent you're in for a long wait). However I have no doubt if we didn't we'd be just the same as your family. :S. Cats dogs and rabbits to the front of the queue! They *definitely* get higher quality care than the people. Cos we pay for it, but still.
