Yeah, I couldn't recall whether you had any siblings . . . I have a brother with three kids, so no one really bugged me about any of that . . . the thing is, I always did bring my cats to visit my folks (I lived 250 miles from them), my mother really did refer to them as her grandchildren . . . and I think she preferred their company to that of her human ones!
I have a brother too. He's too busy fighting for the overthrow of global capitalism to have kids though. My mum understands. She told us many times she never wanted kids and didn't consider herself at all maternal. It's just that my dad really did, and then we she had her own kids it was different. But she's totally not like 'OMG IF U DON'T HAVE KIDS MY LIFE WON'T BE COMPLETE. I MEAN YOUR LIFE WILL BE COMPLETE. EVERYONE SHOULD BREEEEED'. I absolutely cannot fathom people who just have a kid cos it's 'natural', it's 'what you do', etc. It seems to me like having a child, particularly at this point in history, is one of the most morally weighty decisions anyone could ever make. On a par with killing someone in terms of its seriousness.
