He opened up the box and took out the framed picture of his wife and set it down. Claire smiled back at him, wrapped in his arms in a picture from their honeymoon.
With a smile, Mac told himself the City would be good for them. He had heard the enthusiasm in Claire’s voice when she told him about getting the job in the heart of New York’s financial district. Her smile was all the convincing he needed.

She had long since cleaned away the blood, but she could still imagine Frankie’s body lying on the floor.
Waves of guilt and anger flooded over her. Taking a life was hard, though the welled up resentment towards his actions eased the pain, but not the confusion.
Stella closed her eyes and breathed. She was strong enough; she would survive.
