So I 'm buying some books from a complete stranger through unofficial channels. This isn't new. It's my idea of life on the edge. It gets trickier when they're from exotic countries.

I'm trying to buy fewer books, but these are a rather strange lot of sixty particularly esoteric volumes, a few of which are rather hard to get (even by my standards)  ( Read more... )

Well, they're certainly economical with their "in" letters...not using them twice in the same word so they can use them again somewhere else, ya know. :) I think you're right.

Nice. I should probably treat my underlings better.

It turns out I'm a glossator. I take notes and argue with authors in the margins. When it's library books, I go through stacks and stacks of post-it notes. Because I can't help myself, even knowing I've got to give the book back.

I've got a theory that books have the side benefit of providing additional insulation for my house. I have a life goal of having all the outside walls covered floor-to-ceiling with books.

I do not want to know the number of times I have stared at my library and thought of it as the greatest accomplishment of my life. I am not talking about the (few) parts of it I wrote.
