OMG, I Hate Revision

Apr 24, 2011 15:10

I really wish that it were possible for me to proofread my own work effectively without reading it out loud.  After three passes through the ~12 page paper I wrote yesterday, and one pass through last weekend's ~19 pager, I have no voice left.  And I've also discovered that when reading aloud, I apparently lack the ability to distinguish between " ( Read more... )

the successful construction of an argument about a text's meaning using evidence from the text depends upon an ability to choose relevant textual evidence, to contextualize it without getting off-point, and to integrate it into your own sentences.

Which I'm good at. And which I hate doing more than life itself. Probably, then, it's a good thing I've decided against grad school. O_o

The text that you quoted sounds amazing to read but yeah, sheer insanity to try to do a close reading analysis on. Yay you for getting it done!!!

I used to really hate it, too, mostly because it interrupted my flow to keep having to go back and quote from the text, but now that it's become so routine, the process of it actually helps me focus.

The Churchill play is just plain awesome, but the Stein poem, because I've always disliked and never understood Stein, was actually kind of a revelation. But, yeah, not ideal to work with.

Yay you for getting it done!!!

Thanks!

Patriarchal Poetry having patriarchal poetry. Having patriarchal poetry having patriarchal poetry. Having patriarchal poetry. Having patriarchal poetry and twice, patriarchal poetry.

He might have met.

Heh. That really is truly awesome -- officially, the awesomest thing I've read today.

Whatever. I'm done with my homework until next weekend, yay!

Congrats, man. So, go write some fics or somethin'. ::cough::

I honestly feel so lucky that a Stein poem actually clicked for me. Putting meaning together out of something like that was the most intellectually rewarding reading experience of my life, I shit you not.

So, go write some fics or somethin'.

I'm doing some mental writing. Anything more than that and it becomes an obligation and that'll fuck with me getting my schoolwork done.

Yeah, it's just the way I write. Once I start it I want it done ASAP, and so starting anything when I have other responsibilities is asking for trouble.
