I hardly know where to start this review. Through the entire second half of the book, I had three thoughts in my head:

Paul Revere poem2. a song I learned (probably in elementary school) that Google failed to find for me. Some of the lyrics are for the Yankees fought from behind the shrubs, and the trees and the whitewashed fences. But

Second, I looked up slut on wiki: 'Another early meaning was "kitchen maid or drudge" (c. 1450), a meaning retained as late as the 18th century, when hard knots of dough found in bread were referred to as "slut's pennies."[2] A notable example of this use is Samuel Pepys's diary description of his servant girl as "an admirable slut" who "pleases us mightily, doing more service than both the others and deserves wages better" (February 1664).' Interesting, huh? But not really less offensive.
Third, I almost cried at the Billy Dawes part. Such a small scene, but so lovely and telling.
I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for a copy of this book, too. If I see two, I'll buy one for you.
Sarah, you can keep your moldy copy. I guess it's probably difficult to find non-moldy used books in the PNW.
