I thought about posting this link on CoS but decided it was probably better here. Women have more in common with chimpanzees than men I will now run away and hide.

i wonder if the similarity is consistent between bonobos and garden variety chimps, as they have different social structures.

and, just to clarify, i wonder that because bonobos are herbivorous and matriarchal, while common chimps are omnivorous and tribal. i'd assume that the genetic structure of both chimps and bonobos are very similar, but i wonder if one is more similar to the the genetic structure of women. for instance, wouldn't it be interesting if the human women and bonobos were more similar, while human men and common chimps diverted somewhat.

It would but I doubt it is the case - humans and chimpanzees diverged around five and half million years ago with the bonobo and common chimp diverging half a million years later. The reason that human women have more in common with chimps than men is that the human Y chromosome has mutated more than the X. So it mutated after the split.

Are women more like to be vegetarian than men - from personal experience I doubt it.

oh, no, i didn't mean anything that obvious or traceable on such a huge, behavioural level, but something closer to the genetic level. after all, both subspecies of chimps have males as well.

I like his reasoning for not talking to creationists. :p

So do I - what creationists fail to understand is that they are arguing a faith position - it cannot be proved scientifically. Of course they make up pseudo scientific theories like intelligent design but their approach is fundamentally flawed. They would do far better to say that they understand the science but their faith tells them it cannot be true (i.e,. God has played an almighty game with us - laying out all the evidence of evolution so as to allow us to fool ourselves. Frankly I don't believe that's true)

It was funny learning about evolution, because you have all these crazy ideas that creationists have drummed in, and none of them are actually evolution. Creationists try to scare you away from science, and they also laugh about how scientists haven't figured everything out. They're scared of knowledge. I don't understand why we can't believe in evolution and God. It's all or nothing.

I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my science class. I was scared to take it at first because I thought it would be too difficult. It was very rewarding taking that class and being able to understand everything, and then actually enjoying it too! I loved learning about plants, and right now I'm loving reading about why certain foods are good for us. It's really interesting for me to read about how our bodies break things down and use it. Who woulda thunk it. :p

I like to believe God created evolution. Who's to say it didn't take him millions of years to get it done.
