I think undergrads in Humanities find themselves surrounded by and looking up exclusively to grown-ups who have chosen careers in academics. They forget that other options are out there. I majored in English at a little liberal arts school, and I kind of felt like I had no mission because I wasn't into the world of scholarship. I found my path eventually, though. And at no point did it subject me to slave labor.
