It's all kind of hard to explain and may be hard to believe. The basic idea is that this isn't your world, we've been kidnapped by a group called the Malnosso who find it amusing to do horrible things to us.
Kidnapped?! I don't remember anything like that! ... Though to be honest, I don't remember much at all about what I was doing before I got here.
[Her brow furrows as she looks up at him. This guy looks sincere and all, but she doesn't know anything about him.] How do I know you're not one of these Malnosso people? You sure don't look like someone who's been kidnapped.

I had to go find everything but my clothes in the stores, and even my clothes were folded up next to me.
[And that New Feather dress really doesn't cover much, and it must be a bit chilly. He'll take off his jacket and Marica will be able to see his blue wings that match his jacket quite nicely.] Here, you can borrow this until you get your own clothes back. I don't mind and you must be cold dressed like that. Be careful putting it on over your back.

She sees the wings and stares a bit as she starts to put on his jacket -- but something gets in the way, and the man's warning begins to make sense. She tries to see over her shoulder and spins in a circle trying to follow the new attachment to her body, but she's having a hard time seeing it. Finally, she just reaches behind her back and feels feathers.]
[Truly horrible of your friends there, Marica. But really, his jacket isn't going to do much for her arms, but at least it's going to be warmer and likely cover her legs.]
I have no idea how it is possible. I only know what was written in the guide a resident of this place wrote and it really seems little is known about that.
[And he notices Marica has no journal. Oh great, it must be in the trash can.]
Sadly that would be more useful than wings that won't let us fly. But I probably should show you how to find the guide since I'm still new enough here that I may not be able to answer all your questions. [And he's actually going to go look in the trash can and see if he can find Marica's journal without too much digging. He could let her see it in his, but her own should be found.]
Oh, sorry! I didn't know someone was in there.
[And he's going to start walking and try to find another trash can now. Want to stop him?]

It's a village called Luceti. As far as I understand it, a group called the Malnosso enjoys playing cruel jokes on us.
[Seriously, it's hard to say which of them had the worse place to arrive. Piers ended up in Luceti's jail himself.]
