There's no real way to sum up the movie... Michel Gondry has a way of creating fantastical movies which draw up meaning to each person's own way.

I don't really know that I would agree with the fact that the movie had a happy ending. Yeah, he saw the boat, and stuff... but the last bit was just his dream, which we already know has little-to-no bearing on what is actually happening in reality. By the end of the movie, I don't really like the main character, just feel a little sorry for him that he's obviously so disturbed. He's not a good person, just a crazy, creepy one. His relationship with his neighbor is so dysfunctional and unhealthy that you don't even WANT to see them get together... especially after his actions in her appartment, refusing to leave, insulting her... getting together with him would be more the actions of a chronic victim than a romantic partner. Throughout the movie, Stephane does nothing but assume the worst about Stephanie, and treat her poorly because of things he IMAGINES that she has done. The back of the movie box made it seem light-hearted and romantic, but the film was instead quite dark and rather disturbing... even moreso if it is indeed trying ( ... )

after all this time i have just seen it, and i think plot would be much easier to explain than the point. points can be argued, and plots less-so.

it is not my favorite, though.
