Twins! Unless Meredith has a sweet tooth. (*steals 100th comment*) promisedsomeone September 17 2010, 10:12:39 UTC
[Asch shuts the door behind him and ignores the clang of bells. Every sense is focused on his surroundings; he hasn't been here since he discovered the Plane. Navigating the room, he finds what passes for a front desk.

Notably, he's carrying a fancy box of sweet things that smell very sweet. Not quite cake, and not quite cookies, they're exotic (sometimes chocolate, sometimes vanilla, sometimes all three and /spicy/) treats from Chesedonia. He thought that would be more original than copying whatever was in that brochure, and a good measure in case it was wrong.

He clears his throat, waits, then projects his voice.]

I need to speak with the Twins.

[Meredith appears silently behind Asch, possibly just for the pleasure of surprising him.] They're busy. Sorry.

[Asch sucks in a sharp breath and whirls around. JESUS CHRIST WOMAN. At least he doesn't pull out his sword. That would be bad. The grip on his chocolate box tightens.]

... Meredith.

[Well, he didn't plan for this. He manages to calm himself, somehow, though he doesn't trust the creature in front of him at all.] I need someone who knows about timelines here.

[She is hiding her smile of lulz.] I know as much as Lapis and Lazuli do.

[bitch

of course he's not letting any of his anxiety show on his face, or trying not to, though he's a pretty easy read...]

May I speak with you?

[yes he is, and it's funny. It's a good thing Meredith wears a hood to hide her amusement.] Of course.

[He nods, gathering his thoughts for a minute.]

There's a possibility that I could influence events in my past and therefore alter the future. Not just my own, but that of at least three other people. However, it's impossible for me to tell the consequences.

Do you know about the Score?

[a slight smile] Yes, I know of it. My world has its own form of predestination.

It's already been changed in my time, though I'm sure you're aware. I want to know if altering the event that changed further will cause it to default to the original prophecy.

That depends on the changes you make. Even in your time, you are not promised change.

[He swallows a flinch. Damn the Score...!]

I know how to stay alive.

[He stares up at her hood. Yes, he is very determined. Trollable, but determined.]

I want to keep Akzeriuth from falling.

Different worlds have different consequences for changing history. The Machine attempts to protect from paradox. Unless it finds it more amusing not to.

[... real comforting.]

I want a way out in case it fails.

[Then you should make an extra save file, Asch.]

A way to protect yourself from the consequences of your actions?

This isn't about me! This is about the ten thousand people who died because of my stupid replica- and the thousands more that will die if we don't succeed in the future.

If this turns out badly, I want a chance to put it back the way it was.

The only one here with that much power is the Machine. It's difficult to appeal.
