I will not lie to you, the following idea was rather shamelessly stolen from azureskies. However, as I am not a complete android, even on my worst days, I have altered it somewhat and, of course, completely changed the premise. However, I'm almost completely sure he doesn't read my journal anyway and it's not like we share any friends, so I feel quite ( Read more... )

Amelie's okay, but pretty much licks ass. I'd vote that you replace it with Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru, which his best movie. But no one's gonna vote for it, so it might be a waste of time. And Ringu is also butt, and no real list in this vein should be without Grand Illusion. Again, not a lot seen it, but, y'know.

I also don't think any of the Lord of the Rings movies deserve to be anywhere. Not sure what you'd switch.

When I made the list, I went based on IMDB's top-250 list and their top genre lists. Although I've seen a very large part of this list, or I'd feel stupid for trying to put it together. I've heard Amelie actually sucks, but it's rated super high for whatever reason.

Whether Ikiru is better than Seven Samurai or Rashamon could be pretty hotly debated. Frankly, I could put just about any movie Kurosawa made on the list, but I wanted to stop the foreign category from becoming the Akira Kurosawa show. No matter how much he deserves it. And Ringu is just there for my lack of imagination. Consider 'em swapped.

Also, I didn't want to put LOTR on the list, but it's pretty much unavoidable. I have a five-year-rule that should probably be a ten-year-rule when it comes to discussing the 'best movie ever.'
