Still no beta. I'm tormenting myself enough as it is.
Summary: Part 3 - Raido finally realizes Iruka is hurt. Fussing ensues. Boys make it to bed (just sleeping; poor Iruka really is dead on his feet by now)
"Shit, Iruka, I'm sorry!" Genma jumped back, pulling Raido's arms away and staring down at the bruise on Iruka's midsection.
Raido tugged his arms out of Genma's grasp and stepped around Iruka to look as well. "What the hell happened?"
Touching his ribs gingerly, Iruka shrugged. "I thought I told you. Yamashiro and I got into a fight."
"A fist-fight?" Raido screeched. "Did you KNOW about this?" he demanded, shaking Genma's arm.
Genma's face was grim. "Yeah, Aoba told me about it. Don't remember the part about breaking ribs, though." He stared at Iruka now, taking in the bruised jaw, the tiny bruises across his cheek. "At least the handprint faded," he said thoughtfully, tracing the imprint on Iruka's cheek.
"HAND-PRINT? He SLAPPED you?"
Iruka sighed, fending off the hands poking at still-tender flesh. "Kissed me, called me a girl, slapped me, pulled my hair, then pinned me the ground and yelled at me." He caught Raido's hand, still trying to poke at him. "It's okay, Raido. I hit him first."
"He KISSED you? Wait, what? You hit him first? Was this before or after the kissing part?"
"After, Raido," Genma sighed, holding his hand over Raido's mouth. "Long story, I'll tell you tomorrow."
"And you're OKAY with this?" Raido yelled, batting Genma's hand away.
"Hell NO, I'm not OKAY with this?" Genma bellowed. "I've been wanting to punch him in the face every hour since I found out!"
Iruka giggled, rubbing his chin. "Um, about that." Genma grinned and shook his head. Raido merely waited for Iruka to continue.
"I kinda already did that."
Genma nodded when Raido looked over at him. "He's right, Raido," Genma laughed. "Let's just say it's a good thing Aoba is already known for wearing sunglasses 24/7, because with his eye all swollen up like that, he would have a LOT of explaining to do."
Raido snorted, throwing his hands up and turning to fumble through a cabinet. "You're all insane," he proclaimed. "But there is no way in HELL I'm letting you go to school looking like that tomorrow!" He jabbed a finger at Iruka's jaw, slamming a jar of ointment on the counter. "And you should wrap those ribs. They're probably cracked."
"Not that stuff," Iruka begged. "It smells, it burns. And they're not cracked, just bruised. You were squeezing too hard."
"Too bad. People will think we're abusing you or something."
"Great. Now we ALL have to suffer," Genma smirked, nudging Iruka with his elbow.
Iruka tried to slink away, but Raido was bigger, able to block Iruka's exit with just his body. Raido dug his finger in the jar, smearing the goopy foul-smelling stuff across Iruka's face, ignoring the complaints and gags from the other two men.
"And what the hell is that?" he demanded, pointing at the rag tied around Iruka's wrist.
"Oh, I have NO idea how this happened," Iruka admitted, unraveling the rag. "I didn't even notice it until this evening." He held up his wrist, revealing a magnificent bite mark. "I don't remember getting bit by anyone. It's just suddenly THERE."
Genma bit his lip and dashed out of the kitchen. "I'll get the wrappings from the bathroom for his ribs," he called out, slamming the bathroom door behind him before shoving a towel in his mouth to drown out the laughter.
Raido could feel his face twitching as he watched Iruka stare at his self-inflicted bite mark in confusion. He bent his head down to smear the goop on Iruka's ribs.
"Raido, are you okay?"
"Mmm-hmmm," Raido answered without looking up, because he didn't trust himself to speak.
"Why are you blushing?"
Genma fell to his knees in the living room, pounding the floor silently. He wished he could see Raido's face, but he knew if he could, he would never be able to hold in the laughter. Even now, just imagining it, it was a near thing.
"Um, I'm just a little overwrought. I mean, I didn't even know all this stuff happened."
Iruka patted his shoulder. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to worry you. It was just a thing that happened, and I took care of it. Not well, but we kind of talked it out, so I doubt it will ever happen again."
Raido jumped up, slammed the ointment back into the counter and ran out. "Just need to wash my hands," he called. "Not a WORD," he whispered to Genma, still on the floor.
"What's wrong with Raido?" Iruka asked when Genma made it back to the kitchen, wincing when Genma pulled the wrappings around him tightly.
"Tomorrow," Genma promised. "I'll tell you tomorrow. It's late. You need to get some sleep."
Iruka nodded, still shaking his head. "Should I put something on this?" he asked, waving his wrist.
Genma shook his head. "No, it looks fine. Just leave it." He tore off a piece of the wrapping and whittled it down to size with a knife. "Here, put this on your face," he said, offering it to Iruka. "It'll keep it from getting into your eyes while you're sleeping."
Stepping back, he surveyed his and Raido's work.
"What?"
Genma shook his head and slung his arm over Iruka's shoulders, pulling him out of the kitchen. "I was just thinking you look more like a real shinobi now."
"Genma, I AM a real shinobi. This is nothing, just a few bruises. I've been hurt worse before."
"I know, I know." He pulled Iruka closer, dropping a kiss in Iruka's hair. "It's just a selfish thing, but I'm suddenly very glad you don't take missions now. It's hard enough when Raido leaves."
Iruka nodded, twining his hand with Genma's. What could he say? Don't worry? Nothing will happen? So he didn't say anything.
"Bed!" Raido called from the bedroom, his fit of laughter exorcised.
Sinking into the mattress, Iruka suddenly realized just how tired he really was. "If I'm not up by 10, pour water on me," he mumbled against Raido's shoulder. He heard an answering mumble on the other side of Raido.
"If you're not up by 10, I'll be carrying you to hospital, because you're obviously sick."
Raido chuckled because it was two in the morning. It had been two in the morning yesterday when everything had started. One day, he would sit down and work out exactly what had happened when, because it would nice to think 'oh, 4am, that's when...' instead of 'fuck, 4am already, that sucks'.
Iruka had already fallen asleep, and Raido felt every bit of tension drain out of his body. Genma apparently felt the same because he suddenly turned and slung his leg over Raido, laughing at the 'oof' coming from his partner.
"Think he'll remember?" Raido asked, whispering against Genma's hair.
"Gods, I hope so. As long as I'm there when he does." Genma muffled a chuckle against Raido's throat.
"You worried about tomorrow?"
"Today. And no, not really." Sighing, he brushed his hand against Raido's arm before relaxing again. "We survived yesterday. The good, the bad, and the truly bizarre."
"You and Aoba lip-locked in the dining room. That counts as truly bizarre. And what was up with Iruka asking you to do it?"
"Don't know, guess we'll find out later. Sleep, Rai, you need to be alert tomorrow. Or do I need to resort to my patented Shiranui sleep-inducing methods?"
"Uh, no, I think I've had about all of those methods I can handle," Raido answered with a grin. "Should have taken some aspirin. I'm gonna be stiff when I get up."
Genma made a happy noise at Raido's unintentional double-entendre.
"Asshole. Not that you'll be awake, anyway."
They fell asleep soon after that. Too bad neither man remembered the aspirin was mere inches away, standing forgotten on the bedside table.
