The high cost of fashion and adverts

Do you yell at the TV adverts for bad science? bad use of English? clearly stupid statements? We do, and we enjoy it. Teps' 'favourite' ad for this at the moment is the Vanish ad with the woman who can't handle a burger. The voice over says '... how do you get stains like these out of fabrics without fading the colour?...' Teps shouts 'with a ( Read more... )

I yell at the tv. Doesn't have to be an advert. In fact, it rarely is an advert 'cos I habitually mute the ad breaks (or fast-forward through them if watching a recording).
I yell at CSI - "Why aren't you wearing coveralls as well as gloves, you'll contaminate the crime scene!".
I yell at Law & Order - "No, don't search the room now, you haven't got a warrent, it's fruit of a poisoned tree & itll get thrown out of court!".
I yell at Shark - "Why the hell is the DA's office doing the investigation, where are the damned police?"

Am with you on the stupidly-priced outfits in glossies (usually Sunday Supplements in my case). Can only assume there are some very rich people out there who enjoy throwing money away...

Normally my entire exposure to the highprice fashion is via the occassional sunday supplements (and given I don't buy the paper it's rare). A breath of fresh air in Bazaar was the 6 pages given over to M&S.

I also shout at TV programmes but it's not quite the same instant fix as you (generally) have to be following a plot line.

Yes.

The one which had me foaming at the mouth most in recent months was the one for, possibly, Huggies Pull-ups, or some such nappy derivative, showing a winsome tot pulling all of adoring mummy's shoes from the wardrobe, while a voiceover said "Like a pant ..."

A pant is not a bloody item of clothing. It is a breath. A pair of pants is a plural noun. Gah!

Ah yes, baby ads. The one that has me at the moment is the baby wipes advert that says 'from Cheek to cheek..' while showing pictures of soothing a baby's behind, then face. I keep expecting white text telling me that wiping my babies arse then face with the same cloth is not a good idea.

WTF are Vitabiotics? Are they about as real as Pentapeptides?
