ARRRGGGHHH!!!

I freakin' hate Facebook and all of their sneaky little ways of getting around you protecting your privacy. It's just icky. I hate that I feel like I have to go through my privacy settings every month or so just to be sure that everyone and their dog can't decide to stalk me. And I hate the feeling that I have to come up with something pat and ( Read more... )

I'm not on facebook right now because it got way too...highschool for me. It seems to bring out the worst in some people, y'know?

Awwwwww!
*pet pet pet pet pet pet pet pet pet pet pet pet*

I like FB in that i'm talking to my brothers, sister, mom - family that wouldn't like or 'get' livejournal. At all. FB works for us.

Of course, my FB is not my real name or my lj name, i'm somebody else over there *and* it's mostly unfannish, which works well for talking about getting together for birthdays or what have you.

I, however, am right there with you on the damn privacy thing. Arrrgh!

I gave in and got one after about the tenth time someone said, "Why didn't you come to my party/come out with us? I put a note out on Facebook ( ... )

Yeah, pretty much everything about FB when it comes to setting your account preferences, etc., is counter intuitive and just downright *confusing*.

I'm quite sure they do it on purpose.

I like being able to share links and things with my sister and brothers, and keep track of what my daughter and her school friends are up to. I deliberately chose a name that wouldn't ping any radars 'cause frankly, my grade-school peers were annoying fucks, so....

I hate to interrupt a good rant, but... krenn April 26 2010, 19:15:47 UTC
The most recent changes to FB - the "intro you to partner sites" would only have had your 100% public information available.

The same things, that if you have your preferences set so they exist, are visible to web-crawling spiders and anonymous users not even logged in to Facebook.

The new system would not have allowed them to delve in to information you had assigned any restrictions on.

While I may also be irked by their "default yes", it's also not actually _set_ to yes until you click accept on that screen. They're just trying to make it more likely for you to turn it on, since humans are lazy and go with the defaults.

As to the 420 character limit, the note function is the best way around that, I've seen a few people use it with a synopsis and then the full details.

You are, of course, right. Can you imagine the legal ramifications otherwise ( ... )

I've thought of just getting rid of my facebook account a number of times.
