The council decided to cancel its official light switch on this year. There was going to be entertainment, food stalls and a market as well as the lights going on for this Christmas. But the day originally chosen coincided with the arrival of Storm Bert and they decided it was too risky to go ahead with it. So it was postponed for a fortnight,

Never a good time of year to organise anything, the Aussies have the right idea - we should all celebrate Christmas in the summer. :¬)

What a disappointment for all the vendors. I hope they will be able to make up the business elsewhere. I’m not a huge fan of all the Christmas commercialism, but I understand that it is crucial to the survival of many small and independent sellers of all kinds.
