CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character: Hisagi Shuuhei
Canon: Bleach
Age: 22
Position: Seaman Airman
Ship: 4423 Serenity

Appearance:

Height wise, Hisagi is considered slightly taller then average: because of his military background, Shuuhei carries himself with perfect posture, giving one the impression that he was taller then he actually is. With black hair styled in spikes that hold a tinge of purple under specific lighting, one of Shuuhei’s most prominent traits is the three parallel scars that run down his right cheek (from a training mission gone wrong from his stay in the military) and a thin strip of tape runs under his left eye over the bridge of his nose. He is most known for the “69” tattoo on his left cheek.

Hisagi wears a choker around his neck with matching armbands on each arm. Although they were made from leftover chains, it proved to be quite useful once attached with metal capsules filled with steam, giving them explosive properties if flung at an enemy.

Shuuhei prefers to stick with comfortable clothes; usually he can be seen wearing a slightly long black vest buttoned over a collared shirt that left his arms bare (for easy access to armband) pulled out of the way with a belt. Another belt can be seen worn below the first to hold his sheathed sword, Kazeshini, slung low over his hip. Hisagi completed his outfit with pants tucked into a pair of well-worn military boots.

Personality:

Shuuhei is mostly seen as a calm and reliable individual, contradicting his delinquent-like appearance. On the same vein, he also dislikes unnecessary bloodshed and violence, a trait Hisagi picked up from one of his superiors in his stay with the Military: It was also there that he grew confident with a warped sense of ‘Justice’, believing until recently that it meant the path that led to the least bloodshed. Leaving the military had started to give him second thoughts, though many of the teachings have yet to be forgotten.

Even with his mature and responsible attitude, Shuuhei enjoys a few drinks at local taverns with companions when he’s got the cash to do so for stress relief. Another method of stress relief he enjoys comes in the form of Music, having seen bands play for the military, though he has no real talent for it. Hisagi generally will never treat or ever turns down free food because of his past as street rat. He also tends to hoard his earnings to use sparingly even if most of it going to replenish his supply of steam capsules for his chocker and armbands. In regards to his items, he can almost seem obsessive with the finest detail, making him quite entertaining to observe when he starts fiddling with things that generally gets him in trouble.

Abilities/Weapons:

Shuuhei still uses the commoner’s fighting styles from his days on the street: a good example can be seen on his arms and choker. Made from leftovers and scrap metal when he was on the streets, the attached steam capsule allowed him to make an unseen and fast getaway or buy time for him to regroup before launching an unexpected offensive. Though it has been awhile since he last used the crude jewelry, it has been refined to use along side the military taught Flash Steps, which allows him to move faster then the average human. Hisagi’s movements usually involves quite a few aerial attacks, ranging from complicated flips and twists, making a hard target to hit. He is also able to do some simple Binding Kido/Magic, though he seemed to prefer physical attacks over them. (By using said magic drains his stamina faster the he’d like, so he is limited to 3 or 4 times before he’ll pass out from the strain.)

From his stay in the military, Shuuhei obtained a katana lined with mana crystals, Kazeshini, that changes into the form of a double bladed Kusarigama with the release cry of “Kare”(Reap). Attached to the other with a long chain, Kazeshini looks somewhat like a fan because of the reversed blade connected to spiked rods. When used in battle, Shuuhei holds onto the chain and swings the blades in circular motion, making it ideal for both offensive ranged combat along with defense, used to immobilize the enemy. Although Hisagi was highly praised for his skill with the unpredictable weapon, he strongly fears the blade and dislikes the shape of the release, and is hesitant in using Kazeshini in battle.

Hacking:

Easy-Medium. Shuuhei learned quite a few basic skills from the military, and hacking was one of them. Although he did not really show much interest in it then, he will be able to pick it up easily if he has the right motivation.

Weaknesses:

Because he dislikes the shape of Kazeshini, Shuuhei does as much of fighting as he could without releasing this blade. Although he is still a formidable opponent without Kazeshini being released, it still cuts down his attack power. Even after he releases the blade, it would also be dulled by his belief that those who do not fear the sword they wield have no right to wield a sword at all. While it may seem like an honorable trait to have, it is not practical in reality. Even with his past as a street rat, and his experience in the military, Hisagi is still surprisingly naive in the way the world works, making him easy to manipulate mentally. A good example will be his belief that one should never to use excessive force. While one can argue that it was a good trait to have, it makes Shuuhei an easy target to be picked off by more experienced fighters or people without the same sense of ‘honor’ or battle code.

History:

Hisagi grew up with minimal education, learning his basic letters and speech from his gang. Orphaned at a young age in a small town near Claiborne, he did what any reasonable street rat would do under that circumstance: join up with others for safety. Food and water were not easy to come by, and the group resorted mainly to thieving to survive, along with finding scrap metal pieces in the seedier parts of town and traded them for food. It was also through the materials that they were able to ‘earn’ their position in the gang. Running with the pack of street children worked until they started to battle other gangs for territory. The last battle he was apart of took place on the outskirts of the town: the fight was broken up when it attracted stray Monsters eager to feed.

Hisagi tried to escape, but was separated from his group because of injuries obtained from the fight. He was close to becoming Monster food when the Ivona Military on patrol spotted the danger. All he remembered was the tattoo ‘69’ along with a flash of silver hair before he blacked out from blood loss. As Hisagi woke up in the hospital, he vowed to become stronger and joined the military to find his savior to thank him properly.

Inspired by the incident, Shuuhei tattooed the number on his face before he took the exam for Military Academy. He failed the entrance exam twice before he was admitted directly into the Military. Somehow, he excelled after that, and was able to be sent out to lead simple missions with academy students. Life in the military was not easy, and it was during a routine scouting mission gone wrong that Hisagi obtained the three scars on the right side of his face. During the patrol, two of his year mates were picked off before he was aware of the new breed of monsters that had somehow snuck up on the group. Panicking, he ordered the Academy students to run for help as he tried to hold the monsters back. A few students refused his direct orders returned just after he was knocked down from the slash on the his face and saved his life, effectively buying enough time for backup to arrive. He kept those scars as a memory and promise to get stronger.

It was only recently that Hisagi became restless, having slowly realized that it was neigh impossible to fulfill his childish dream of thanking his savior from so long ago in the military, he took leave from the military. With nothing to return to from his life before the military, Shuuhei drifted from town to town, working when he find job as a mercenary for monster killing as he slowly used his pay saved from the military. After he received a letter from an old acquaintance that was colorfully detailed about adventures on the airships, Hisagi decided to join the 4423 Serenity-the first airship he came across-and hoped for some adventure and to find a place to stay.

Third Person (roleplay):

Hisagi covered a yawn as he stretched from his seated position, cracking his neck in the same movement while pushing the letter aside. The smell of smoke and stale bread immediately drift inside his mouth, leaving an unpleasantly bitter/dry feeling behind. With a wince, he tried to summon enough saliva to wash away the taste. He had no choice: other rooms were already taken, and there was little he could do in regards to his location: with his dwindling stash of money, the best he could afford was the seedy little room atop of the bakery he rented out for the week. It’s not like there’s much money left. He mused. Guess it’s time to take another job, ‘else it’s going to Boston in the fall. Although it was getting harder to see, Shuuhei did not light up a lamp, choosing instead to glance at the letter quickly. Even with the natural lighting disappearing outside, he was able to make out the untidy scrawl of “Hope you are doing well!” … and a few lines down: AIRSHIP! ADVENTURE.

With a sigh, Hisagi bent over the metal pieces on the table as he picked apart his armband, trying to salvage as much as of the destroyed chain as he was able. During the last job he’d taken, a Monster somehow flung Shuuhei, who had landed roughly on the decorative jewelry. The rough handling had smashed some of the capsules out of shape as it dug into his flesh, loosing most of its steam while bending the chain links out of their intended places. Squinting as the darkness claimed the room, he was able to pick out the last of the destroyed chain links just as the last rays of light disappeared. Hisagi shook out the metal band lightly before replacing the empty capsules with a magnetic click (he made a mental note to trade for more usable materials as soon as possible) while rubbing his eyes closed with the back of his hand.

Working on his armband was not enough of a distraction; with the chore done, his mind was free to wonder. It landed back on the envelope sitting innocently on the table for the ninth time that night. He picked up the paper, no longer needing to reread the contents having memorized it from the previous read throughs, and slid it inside his vest. Ah, why not? It’s not like I’ve got anything to lose.
Shuuhei swiped the unusable metal into a small pouch carefully and wrapped up his tools in scrap pieces of cloth, making sure they were all folded the same way before placing them back in his pack. He stood, snapping the chain back in place on his left arm over the bandage snugly covering the bruise from the fall and buckled Kazeshini back in place. He left the room with the pack slung over a shoulder after checking the contents of his bag. Hisagi stepped out to Clovus and headed to the nearest booth to replenish supplies and ask where the closest Airship was docked.

First Person (journal):

Leaving the Military was one of the hardest decisions I had to make, but it needed to be done. I have grown stronger since I first joined at the age of 18, and matured into the person I am today. Had I stayed, it was a matter of time before the higher ups demand me to either trade Kazeshini for another katana with Mana Crystals or to become more consistent in using it in released form. While it would have been simpler to trade Kazeshini in for another blade, somehow, though I fear him for the right to use him in battle, and even if I hated the shape of his blades because of its design to reap lives, I cannot bring myself in letting go of this Katana. It was from the Military that I gained the ability to fight ruthlessly when it needed to be done, but somehow it felt…wrong to remain there any longer. I have not forgotten the promise I made myself the day I enlisted-- to properly thank my savior on that day from so long ago-- but from searching the military database for any trace of such a person yielded nothing. I decided it would be a better way of repaying him by doing the same to others: it cannot be done in the military. Someday, I hope to have that sort of impact on someone. Following orders and leading missions ordered by the military was not going do that. By taking in odd jobs as a mercenary, I will be able to freely travel, and make sure Monsters will not get the chance to pick off those not equipped to protect themselves. Heh, I’m rambling again, huh? Must be the booze talkin’ …yeah. I’ll head out first thing tomorrow.
