For those who have knowledge about Flower Language or have attended the Hanami Festival before...

Do flowers that fall from the North Cloud have any special meanings?

I imagine it all depends on what legend you believe.

If the meanings change if one believes in different legends, does it mean it's up to the receiver to decide on what it means, and not the sender?

That would depend on the receiver and sender. Though I doubt anyone would be insulted by such a gift.

Why do you ask?

Partially just curiosity. Never really gave flowers much thought before this...

Since the flowers fall at random from the North Cloud over different cities every seven years, each town probably will interpret each flower differently, right? Therefore, if the sender and receiver is from different cities, meanings can both be lost in translation or tacked on...

In the far western parts of Vohemar, when the Lake People crown somebody with Hanami flowers, it's a special honor. There's some secrecy surrounding the proceedings, so I think it's some kind of fertility rite.

Interesting! I almost wish Claiborne had some sort of ritual in regards to the flowers, but ah, well.

[he sounds genuenly interested]

Have you ever seen the ritual in person?

Maybe it will, someday?

No, kids are excluded. And as an adult, I've never been in that region at the right time and place to be admitted. Too bad, huh?

Say, I'm on the Amestris! I went visiting. But I'll be back in time for the festival opening, because we're headed there. See you then?

Yeah, that's too bad.

[a laugh.]

No wonder I didn't see you in the mess hall for awhile! Are you there for Military business?

Though yeah, see you at the festival!

I know that they're supposed to carry luck with them. And they're very rare, so a gift of them shows very high regard.

I think any other meanings depend on what legend you know, though.

I see. So on top of meaning whatever it does in flower language, the flowers that are gathered from the Hanami festival also work as a good-luck charm?

That's what I've always heard! The place where they fall is supposedly blessed with luck, too.

I'll keep that in mind; thanks. You really know alot about flowers!

The place where they fall... So, if we catch the flower before it touches the ground, say, with a net, does it mean the airship or plane is blessed, as well?
