Wizarding World Legislation

(Just from that title, I feel like such a huge nerd.)

So, for my scifibigbang entry, the main premise is that Lupin has left Hermione in his will some of his memories, entries from his journal, etc., that reflect how lycanthropy has impacted on his life, and how he's been subject to prejudice and so on, to help her support a case for abolishing anti-werewolf ( Read more... )

Well, all I can offer is my gut reaction to this: Hermione would use a lot of "practical" (i.e. Muggle) ingenuity to get all those stodgy Wizarding folk to see things her way. She might even make it seem like they thought of it themselves (rather than the daughter of two Muggle dentists coming up with the idea to revise or repeal the anti-werewolf legislation).

So, I guess the real question would be, does the Wizarding World need werewolves? I mean, arguing for equality and rights is all well and good but, from her experience with S.P.E.W., Hermione would know that not everyone will make the effort to help her save them (Graybeck's ilk would no doubt laugh in her face), so maybe she needs to "pull" rather than "push" if that makes any sense. Get the Wizarding folk to realize the worth of werewolves in order to "pull" them into society (and, in the process, abolish the crap legislation that discriminates against them ( ... )

Legend.

(I'll have a reply for your e-mail in a few hours, too, hopefully. ♥)

The line that you've written that caught my eye, in particular, was: "Get the Wizarding folk to realize the worth of werewolves in order to "pull" them into society..." I think that Hermione could definitely use the memories and whatnot that Remus has left her (in my fic) to make a convincing case with that as the backbone.

I like the idea that she'd be able to make it seem like they thought of her idea themselves, because I agree with you -- a lot of fics do tend to write Hermione as very, very pushy, and I don't think she's like that. She's headstrong, yes, but I think that her experience in dealing with the Ministry would have taught her that pushing and being wilful will not always work.

Thanks a bunch! ;3
