One of my 'friends' (an unfortunately necessary contact for my career, blergh) made some very choice, rather crude comments about gay rights & gay marriage, and made me VERY VERY ANGRY. It basically boiled down to, "a normal straight person wouldn't support gay rights therefore you're a lesbian and I can ridicule you because that's bad", and "there shouldn't be a debate at all because gay marriage should just be illegal everywhere and why do people question that?"
Needless to say, I have not even a shred of respect left for this guy.
And I am really annoyed at the moment because there was a rally in Melbourne that I really wanted to go to, and then I got sick. ;___;
Ugh. I'm sorry you have to keep that guy as a contact, because that just... sucks. I'm fortunate that in this stage of my life, I can still afford to bitchslap that kind of person out of my life. Hugs and strength to you.
The person who made those comments is unfortunately kind of necessary to at least keep in touch with, and I did try, very hard, to stay calm and not scream at them.
Thank you for agreeing with me, it is very reassuring to know that the world is not full of morons ♥
Do I have to be gay to support the LGBT rights movement? Why would it give me more credibility? That's like saying I need to be part of a racial minority to be angry about racism, it's ridiculous.
There's a reason there's something called "human" rights, you know. It's because it doesn't matter what the colour of your skin is or what faith (or lack thereof) you practice or what gender your partner is or anything else, you're still human -- so it shouldn't matter what my sexuality is, I should be able to be furious when a minority group is denied the right to equality, without my "credibility" being questioned because I don't belong to it.
Would you question a pale skinned man who supports the rights of African women, just because of his appearance?
Pretty nice post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed browsing your blog posts. In any case Iâll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you write again soon!

I'm trying to keep interaction to an absolute minimum... let's see how that goes.
