Modly tasks ahead of us

May 30, 2007 22:10

I have the following mod tasks in mind that, once we have the information gathered, we can make a comprehensive post about. I think we need to do the following things, and if you think of something else, please tell me and I'll add it to the list.

  • We need to come up with a comprehensive list of sponsors to boycott, with the names, the email and ( Read more... )

Some people from innocence_jihad already tried contacting the ACLU and they said that LJ was within their rights to do what they did. I'd link but the comm seems to have vanished (although that might be something with my connection).

Linky!

It was my connection.

Also, I'd be happy to help co-draft a letter. I'm not ready to do it on my own, but I really want to volunteer whatever I can - and I can write.

This is kind of an oddball idea, but:

I am willing to host, update, and organize a spreadsheet listing people's alternate journal names -- for example, somewhere on line 52, you'd find "distaff_exile" in column A, "havoc" in column B (Journalfen), "dechant" in column C, and so on. Said spreadsheet would be downloadable as an Excel file from a reliable address, one I control, not LJ. They'd really have to try to get my provider to drop my domain.

I also know a few scholars of pop culture, including one of the speakers featured in "Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed". If there's anything we in and around academia can do, I'd love some ideas.

I am willing both to trawl LJ for contact links and to then post the post links in fannish communities. I am a member of quite a few fandoms and a huge number of communities, even smaller ones, and a few RPs, so I think I can get the word out quite effectively.
I just want to do anything I can to help.

Has anyone considered putting the word out on a larger scale, ie- contacting major news outlets, or the like? Would something like that help or hinder our effort? Just curious - I can see pros and cons for that option.

I'd say that they'd going to find out themselves and leave it be. The media can be fickle and child pornography/pedophilia is a very sensitive topic. I think it would be very easy for the media to take this in the wrong direction.

(I'd like to note however that I have no personal experience with the media and if someone who does have experience can tell me otherwise, I'd be happy to learn.)

Don't panic! Fandom Wank is on JournalFen, and has been since being TOSed from LiveJournal in 2003. That's where you found them, I'm sure, without realizing that you'd followed an offsite link :).
