Gender: Male
Role: Student (10th grade)

Background (AU): Born and raised in Breezy Point, Queens, New York, Cheren has always been an over-achiever. As long as he can remember, he's been obsessed with being at the top of his class, getting the best grades, and getting into a high-end college like Harvard or Cambridge. From there, well... Well, that's not something he's actually considered in all seriousness. But he'll figure it out someday.

Cheren was assigned the female sex by the doctor who delivered him, and as such was raised as a girl. However, from the time he realized the differences between the genders, he knew himself to be a boy, and would always correct anyone who insisted otherwise, as though it should be obvious -- on the earliest occasion he can remember, at the age of four, he was sitting on the floor coloring in a coloring book when his mother mentioned her "little girl" in a phone conversation, and he spoke up with the words, "Little boy," not even taking his eyes off the page. At first his parents thought it was just a phase, but he kept it up, and when he entered kindergarten, his entire class knew that he was a boy by the end of the first day. When his confused teacher called his parents to clear things up, they realized that he was serious, and decided to go along with it... for now, at least.

Over time, his parents came to fully accept his self-identification as male; by the time he graduated elementary school, they figured that he'd been living as male for longer than they had tried socializing him as female, so he must actually be serious about this. If anything, they were more worried about how obsessed he was with his schoolwork -- not that they minded having a little brain in the family, but they worried that he might work himself too hard and burn out one day.

Throughout elementary school, Cheren was always at the top of his class. He preferred to skip recess to read ahead in his books, but certain annoying friends of his made that difficult. Secretly, he enjoyed their company, but he was always so obsessed with getting ahead that he pretended he was annoyed with them.

Then came middle school, and Cheren continued to excel at schoolwork. In his spare time he took up piano lessons. Other rather delicate matters reared their head as he became a teenager; his first period, when he was twelve; his voice refusing to drop the way his male classmates' did; his growing breasts posed the largest problem, but thankfully, his parents were understanding enough to pay for a binder for him. Still, the issue bothered him so much that he withdrew even further into his studies, becoming even more antisocial than he had been in elementary school.

When Cheren got into high school, he began looking into private high schools in hopes of improving his education further. After a year he was accepted into prestigious Sophia Academy, and packed up to leave.

Personality: Cheren is aloof and arrogant, sure of himself in everything he does. He's an overachiever who acts like he cares more about being the best than about anything else, but secretly he really does have a soft side -- he cares deeply for his friends, and he loves animals. He doesn't get sappy or sentimental about it, though; he figures that just staying by his friends' sides and doing what he can to help them is enough to get the point across.

In private, Cheren is insecure. He doesn't know what he wants to do with his life, aside from wanting to get into the best college he can. Someday. What's he going to major in? Who knows. What's really important is that he's the best. He knows in his kokoro that he is an intelligent, capable boy, but it bothers him when people don't acknowledge his intelligence, capability, or masculinity. Thus far, his family and friends have been pretty good about all of that, and since he'll be going stealth at Sophia Academy, he doesn't foresee any problems on the gender front, but when it comes to the rest, well... Let's just say you don't want to be his roommate if he fails to make valedictorian.

When it comes to strangers, Cheren is a man of few words. He doesn't like idle chatter or small talk, preferring to get straight to the point. If confronted by a character who likes to chit-chat inanely without getting to the point, he'll try to grit his teeth and be polite, but eventually he'll have to snap and tell them to stop wasting his time.

Moira's Gift: N/A (May retcon later :C)

Other Abilities: Cheren is highly skilled at most subjects in school, including math, science, history, English, and foreign language (he's fluent in Spanish and studying French), and can play the piano. He has no combat training.
