Need to start getting stuff ready for our upcoming trip. I'm a little intimidated about driving to New Mexico with the kids, but really looking forward to having some time as a family - Ben's been at work so much lately. TSA seems to be saying that they're not going to do pat-downs on kids under age 12- I don't know if that will really translate to, well, not doing pat-downs on kids, but at least... maybe.

For my kids, if it comes to it, I choose an invasive pat-down (which can be talked through and overcome, one hopes) to extra radiation (which is an especial unknown on their young selves). Before we flew this past Wednesday I discussed the pat-down possibility with the kids, which gave a good opening to dovetail off into reminders about unwanted touches in general and whatnot; we ended up able to go through a metal-detector-only security line; don't know how it'll go in a couple of weeks when we fly home out of LAX.

Well, for the twins, I'd think the pat down would be no big deal. It's not that unusual to have near-strangers changing the diapers of one-year-olds. Iris isn't far removed from that age, either.

Hope the drive goes smoothly!

We're leaving for Austin on Monday. We've driven there once a year for nine years now. 36 hours straight through.

Good luck on your journey!
