I've learned not to pay attention to claims that the machine has "just been taken in" from sellers. What model machine is it? Problems picking up the bobbin thread usually are really problems with the shuttle catching the needle thread. This could be caused by a bent needle, a needle installed backwards or a timing problem.
I see you're in MB. Do NOT take it to the shop in Westchester Triangle. The guy there said my Viking was evil, and he wanted it out of his shop. He said that I had never used it to make buttonholes, and implied that i was lying when I said I had been making buttonholes for 10 years on it.
Don't worry, wherever I take it, it will be down in San Diego. I've made the acquaintance through email of several of the costumers down there so I'll ask their opinion.
