While he was serving on the Morgue Trade,
Rebel Storvik had heard rumors of
visitors from a parallel universe where Vulcans and humans were not enslaved by Klingons and Cardassians. Because official news (propaganda) from Alliance sources was always suspect, travellers made a point to listen to and repeat all the rumors and stories that they heard as they moved from port to port. That did not, by any means, indicate that they believed the rumors, of course; in fact these particular stories always struck
Rebel Storvik is being wishful thinking of the worst sort - humanity always believed in an Eden somewhere over the mountains or across the stars. As they travelled over those mountains and across the stars, the dreams of utopia did not vanish; paradise simply got further and further away. In this case, utopia was now located somewhere entirely outside of the universe altogether.
Rebel Storvik was surprised when he joined the Rebellion and found out that those stories were actually true; and that it was those incursions to and from the "mirror universe" which had finally helped to level the playing field between the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance and those who were rebelling against them. However, the Alliance was learning to deal with the Rebellion's new advantages and learning new ways of fighting back. The Rebellion was continuing to fight and cope as well as they could, but they were also hoping for further assistance from the mirror universe. Unfortunately, it had been several years since the last dimensional alien had crossed over from that universe, and none of the Rebellion's attempts to contact them or crossover themselves had been successful. Attempts were still ongoing, but hope was beginning to dim.
Rebel Storvik decided that he really didn't care about seeking assistance from this other universe. He was really only concerned with the Rebellion as far as it safeguarded his own life and freedom. If this mirror universe really did exist, he had no interest in seeking assistance from them. He wanted to move there and leave this whole war and universe behind, without a care about who won or died once he was gone. Of course, he couldn't tell anybody that.
Most of the crossovers, and all of the recent ones, had occurred on or around a space station called Terok Nor in the Bajor system.
Rebel Storvik managed to get himself assigned to one of the small undercover teams whose primary purpose was to watch for crossovers from the other universe, or to watch for opportunities to cross over to the other universe. Their assignment was to seek assistance and/or technology from the other universe in order to further aid the Rebellion.
Rebel Storvik's personal goal was to find an opportunity to leave this universe, and to take it - let the others stay behind to fight and die.
For that purpose, he got a job on Terok Nor and waited. Vulcans were not nearly as numerous as humans, and had special talents, so they were always sought after and welcomed.
Rebel Storvik worked and waited, worked and waited.
