Marian wasn't sure if she was happy that Silence was not about when she arrived back at their hut. It did give her some time to think as she shook out the laundry, trying to get the dust and dirt off it from where she'd dropped it

Silence has been hunting, stretching hisswor arm and giving Bonheur a chance to run. He has a brace of birds when he returns, and he swings down from Bonheur's back and hangs them. "What is wrong?"
Marian goes to him as soon as he's hung the birds, her arms going about his neck to pull him close. "Robin is here. He told..." She cannot say the words, burrowing her face in his neck.
His arms go around her, startled, comfortingly stroking her hair. "I have seen him," he says, but doesn't think the appearance of an old friend could be responsible for such consternation. "What has he told thee?"
