Arthur was developing the habit of visiting the kitchen more and more often. After the imagined trip back to Britain, he found he missed the comfort that well-cooked meals in others' company could bring. Although he had no one to eat with him today and was not searching for such, Arthur stepped into the kitchen knowing that finding a companion by the end of his meal would not be impossible ( ... )

Chase had been studying psychiatric textbooks in the clinic when he heard a deep tone calling and he pried himself out of his reverie when he noticed that no one else was responding. He glanced up worriedly. "Here, put her on the bed," Chase advised, yanking his stethoscope off the table.

Doing as instructed, Arthur settled the woman carefully on the bed, not wishing to jostle her unnecessarily and cause perhaps unseen damage. He stepped back immediately to make room for the man, not wishing to be an obstacle for him. "Do you need assistance?" he asked, ready to help to the best of his power, or find someone else who would be of more service.

Chase looked her over, getting some damp cloths to get the woman cleaned up. "Where did you find her?" he asked. "Her name? Condition? Do you know anything else about her?"
