The elevator doors were a mirror of glass and polished steel, the panel of buttons beside them a bewildering, ceramic array. Uni paused in front of the elevator, adjusted the lapels of her suit jacket and smoothed down her skirt, willing her fingers not to tremble.
Over a year since they had first met, and though she did not fear him it was still an effort to stay calm despite the imagined weight of his displeasure. A difficult effort, to be sure, but one she was getting increasingly better at making; though it was impossible to prepare for everything Byakuran-sama wanted or expected, she had grown to understand the things he did not say. Uni inhaled once, deeply, then pressed the button to open the elevator doors and take her to his floor.
