What: The frog and tadpole meet, and something is revealed. Something other than just Genkishi's body, that is.
When: June 25th, evening
Where: Their room (Haru B, 108)
Rating: PG (NC-17 to those sensitive to Genkishi)

It was, Fran realized, rather rare that he was going to bed at, well, bedtime.

He supposed it was partly because he had very little in the way of a schedule, given his unusual arrival time at the university. He was quite free to wander around at whim, so he tended to sleep when he felt like it.

Of course, he thought to himself while buttoning up his pyjama top, it had taken him a while to even move in to his room, so for some time after his arrival at the university, "bed" had been a rather relative term. Now he'd at least finally taken his place at the appointed room, though given his erratic schedule he was yet to run into his roommate.

Looking over at the other side of the room, he wasn't entirely sure he wanted to, either. It looked almost sickeningly clean. He couldn't imagine being quite so careful with, well, anything. Not that he had a lot of belongings, but he still managed to be messy compared with his phantom roommate.

Ah, well. As long as whoever it was didn't start complaining about the fact his plush frog was sometimes on the floor and not his bed, it didn't matter.

In any case, he was certain his roommate couldn't be more annoying than he was.

Putting on his little froggie night cap, Fran yawned, picking up his plushie. Time to get some sleep.

And tomorrow, back to hunting the mystery attacker...

Genkishi too was a busy man. But unlike his yet-to-be-met roommate, he was very organized about his schedule. He especially made it a mission that no matter how hectic a day would be, he would always remain punctual. He could allow himself to be a little late for one task but then he would have to tackle the next one faster to make up for the lost time. To make it simple, he always finished his day (and his sacred mission for his God) at the same time every day.

And this day was no different.

Slipping back into the room like the mist that he was, which was through the window, Genkishi immediately got to one corner of his side and started removing his spandex. Always being so serious and bent on giving the day’s mission his all, the end of the day was his precious time of relaxation.

And yet...just when he was half way through slipping the spandex entirely off, Genkishi suddenly noticed that something in the room was out of place. Tadpole-like eyebrows forming a frown that marred his usually expressionless face, the so-called most loyal servant of God finally saw it...

That there was an ugly frog occupying the other side of the room.

Had Fran had to explain why he didn't react at first, he would have claimed to be too shocked at Genkishi's strange entrance. As nobody asked, he simply looked on in half horror at the spandex-covered monster that appeared to be quite familiar with the other half of the room. Maybe, if he was quiet enough, this would turn out to be a bad dream that would just go away.

No such luck. Figures. As though anything in his life could go well.

"Nobody ever tell you what doors are for?" he asked as it became apparent Genkishi had noticed him.

“Sharpening your skill is a must,” replied the ‘spandex monster’. “A dull sword cannot cut. Nor can it shine with its grace and might.”

And he was not going to waste his relax time for the additional abomination in his room. Genkishi simply turned away from the not-so-little frog and undressed, ready to change into his shocking-pink pyjama.

"And what skills are you sharpening by sneaking in through the window?" Fran raised his eyebrows. "The ever-so-important talents of stalking and breaking-and-entering?"

“One quality of the mist is to be elusive,” was the tadpole-like eyebrowed man’s reply. “And a swordsman needs his dexterity.”

"Elusive? With what you wear? You must be joking." Fran shook his head. The frog cap he was wearing made a small froggy sound. "And how were you training your dexterity by planking?"

Genkishi’s eyebrows twitched. “That was not practicing. It was a ritual to worship kami-sama.”

"Hooo... you have a weird god, then." Fran sat down on his bed, still hugging his frog plushie. "Are you sure you're Mist? Most Mist users I know of are at least borderline intelligent."

“That’s because you are a fool.” One who did not know the truest path to walk.

"My being a fool causes others to be intelligent? Wow, that's a useful skill."

“...” Genkishi chose not to reply. There was no need talking to a fool who would never understand the most sacred ritual that was planking. It wasn’t like Mist people could usually get along well with one another anyway. He had heard somewhere that if that happened to somehow happen, a great tragedy would strike.

So instead, Genkishi just crawled into his bed, hugging the marshmallow-shaped pillow as he closed his eyes and tried to lull himself to peaceful sleep.

A small, black frog hopped in through the window still open after Genkishi. Fran turned to look at it. "Ah, Diego Alessandro. Anything new?"

"Nope." The frog hopped right to his bed and on his pillow. "Still no sign of the attacker."

The swordsman would have let himself fall asleep if it hadn’t been for the conversation he happened to still hear. And it made very much sense.

The attacker.

Genkishi cracked one eye open. He saw a small frog which seemed to be able to talk. Well, considering that the other was also a Mist, he wouldn’t waste time being surprised. He pretended to be sleeping and listened.

"Still nothing, hmm?" Fran frowned. "Where'd you look?"

"All around the training building, of course." The frog tilted his head; quite a feat from a thing with little to no neck. "Well, I didn't get to Hibari's office. Pretty well protected, that place. But if I didn't, I doubt many do."

"And no clues anywhere?"

"Nope." Another head tilt. "I checked for flames, too. No Mist used since you carried those nurses to the scene. Not beyond anything a student would, I don't think. Other stuff, yes, but that's to be expected."

"Maybe it's a ghost."

So they are trying to find the mysterious attacker, though Genkishi. It’s just like what Byakuran-sama said.

Genkishi had no idea about the real attacker but it wasn’t like he was interested in the case. All that he knew was that order from his God. To stir up the chaos in the university. And Yuni-sama and her compassion had gotten him pretty much the satisfying result. Still, he would prefer to make his task even better. More perfect. Exceptional. So that his God could be even more pleased.

And thus was how he decided to speak up.

“...It is not.”

"Oh?" Fran turned his eyes towards Genkishi. "And how'd you know that?"

The Millefiore swordsman flexed his aching muscles, hugging the marshmallow-shaped pillow closer to himself. “I was attacked.”

"Oh?" Now that was interesting. He'd seen some mentions of being hurt in Genkishi's journal but not thought much about it. "When and where and how?"

“...I was the second one to be attacked. That Adelheid woman was the third.” Genkishi replied carefully. “...I was...practicing and I could sense ill intention and malice.”

He paused a little, recalling what he had told Yuni before continuing.

“...I would have accepted his challenge but the opponent fought dirty. I will never admit my defeat being attacked from behind.”

"Attacked from behind, hmm?" Fran poked the frog plushie. "Another fighter with dark hair, too."

"And multiple weapons," Diego Alessandro added. "Seems like a pattern to me."

"Indeed." Fran patted the frog. "When were you attacked?"

“On the 12th,” replied the swordsman. “And as I am also a Mist user...I can assure you that the attacker is no user of Mist.”

"Yeah, we figured that much already," Fran murmured. "We checked the other sites of attack. Where'd it happen?"

That was when Genkishi’s lips tightened. Where should the incident happen?

“...Hibari’s training facility.” If the other two attacks happened there, he guessed he could use the place. If there was a question regarding why he was there, though, he would say it was Millefiore’s business.

"Where there?" Fran asked. "And what were you doing there?"

“....I cannot tell you. It’s Millefiore’s business.” He turned away as he kissed the pillow he was hugging. “I cannot tell you where either. But I was there and I was attacked...during my mission for kami-sama.”

"That's not telling much."

It told him something, though. Genkishi had been in a place he had no business to be in, two days after Hibari had been attacked, on "Millefiore business" that he could not share with a Varia member. Interesting. Very interesting.

“I have something I had to do there. But a fool like you will never understand the importance of my sacred missions.”

"Indeed I could not." And a good thing, too. He preferred being at least somewhat sane.

“...” This fool really had no will to try and learn. So he really was foolish and lazy. “Whoever your teacher is, I feel for him.” For Genkishi had no idea who really was the mentor of this frog. He closed his eyes again and tried to go back to sleep.

Mission accomplished.

"My Master is certainly skilled enough." Not what Genkishi meant, most probably, but true nonetheless.

Crawling properly to bed, Fran yawned, hugging the plushie close to his chest. Diego Alessandro quaked softly before crawling under the covers as well.

Tomorrow, he'd have to tell Boss about this.

genshiki, fran
