[Closed Log] Half a Year Anniversary

Aug 17, 2011 11:39

Who: Dino Cavallone and Hibari Kyouya.
What: Dino forgets something important.
When: July 15th
Where: Hibari's hospital room.
Rating: PG-13

This whole day, Dino had felt as if he was forgetting something. It was not a rare thing for him, of course, since--embarrassingly enough--he often forgot one thing or the other. Usually, the things he had forgotten were not so important, though, so they didn’t bother him very much.

Only, this time, he felt like he really should’ve remembered what he had forgotten and he had checked and rechecked his works, things he had brought with him to the hospital and even made a call to Italy only to make sure he hadn’t forgotten anything there.

Still, he couldn’t remember what he had forgotten.

With a heavy sigh, Dino sat on his precious chair beside Kyouya’s hospital bed, still thinking about something important that he had forgotten.

"Well, you sound cheerful." Kyouya didn't take his eyes off the game in his hands. It was somewhat amusing, seeing Dino meander about with that worried look on his face like a kid who had misplaced his favourite toy. Of course, he wasn't sure just what was agonizing the man, but he was certain it was nothing serious enough that Kyouya himself would have to worry.

At some point, he just might give Dino the gift that at the moment was safely hidden under his pillows. Might. For now, he was too busy trying to figure out how to get further in the game.

“Hm?” Dino lifted his head to look at Kyouya. He was quite surprised to hear the man’s voice. He had thought Kyouya was too observed in his game to actually pay any attention to him. “Why, thank you, Kyouya,” he replied in equally sarcastic tone before sighing.

“It’s just-- I think I forget something important. The problem is, I can’t remember what I’ve forgotten.” That made sense, didn’t it?

Kyouya's lips twitched. "Then how do you know you forgot something?" He had presented all the possible evidence and tried every possible topic with every available character, damn it. Why wasn't he getting forward?

“Because there’s this nagging feeling at the back of my mind that said I’ve certainly forgotten something! Something important, too.” Dino ran a hand through his hair. “I thought it was my paperwork, but after I checked and rechecked, they are all complete. I’ve called Italy only to make sure I hadn’t forgotten to bring something and they confirmed I’ve left nothing important behind. This nagging feeling still won’t disappear, though.”

Kyouya had a feeling he knew what it was. However, forgetting it just meant Dino deserved to be in the dark for a bit longer. "Did you remember to put on your shirt this morning?" As though it wasn't obvious enough.

Okay, last try. This made no sense, but it was the only thing he hadn't tried. Present the stupid suicide report to the person he had just got it from...

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." Report part two? This was a bad joke at best.

Dino frowned a little. He was slightly annoyed that Kyouya, apparently, was taking his confusion as his second source of amusement after his game. Seeing his lover’s serious face while playing the game made that annoyance gone almost completely soon after, though.

“You know, I think you can search the game’s FaQ in the internet.”

"Oh, I just got forward. I think." He wouldn't put it past the game to get stuck for a ridiculous reason again. "If I just followed a walkthrough, I could just as well watch a video of someone else playing it, and that would be pointless."

He gave Dino a smirk. "Besides, it seems to me you are more stuck than I am right now."

“Congratulation.” Dino said half-heartedly. Was it silly if he felt slightly put off because Kyouya wasn’t stuck on his game anymore while he still couldn’t figure out what he had forgotten? Okay, so maybe it was silly. Dino didn’t care about that at the moment, though.

“I guess so. It’s a little bit strange, actually.” the blond man sighed. “Usually, even when I’ve forgotten something, it won’t bother me this much.”

"Well, you remembered to come visit me," Kyouya said, "and you didn't forget your ring, so it's nothing I would kill you over at least." In all honesty, he had not even expected Dino to remember.

“I won’t forget those things.” Dino mumbled, reaching over for his laptop, switching on the device. “Maybe I’d put something on my journal...” he was thinking out loud now, most of his attention was focused on his laptop.

It took Dino only few minutes before he suddenly froze. “...Oh.”

Kyouya took advantage of Dino's attention being elsewhere to fish the little parcel from under his pillows. With a smirk, he pulled it to sight while Dino was still staring at his laptop, laying his console in his lap. "Still in the dark?"

Slowly, Dino lifted his head from his laptop screen. His hazel orbs were wide and then his expression turned apologetic. “After reading your journal? No. God, I don’t even-- how could I forget about it?” he moaned. “I’m sorry, Kyouya.”

"Herbivore," Kyouya said with a sing-song tone. "You should be sorry." He tossed the gift towards Dino. He might or might not have aimed at his head.

Because Dino was looking down, he didn’t see the gift which was thrown to his head and it hit him squarely. “Auch!” was his first reaction before he caught the gift Kyouya had thrown.

Holding the parcel on his hands, Dino could actually feel his guilt grew. “...I-- uh,” he hadn’t bought anything for Kyouya. It was their half a year anniversary and he didn’t buy anything for his fiancé. Worse, he didn’t even remember it. Dino wasn’t sure he deserved the gift.

“Uh-- I didn’t buy you anything...” he said guiltily, hands playing with the parcel. “Maybe I shouldn’t accept this.”

"Idiot," Kyouya sighed. "Of course you didn't buy anything since you didn't even remember." He picked up his console again. "It's not an official celebration, you realize, so stop being an idiot about it." Hey, at least he could feel smug about a relationship matter for once.

“It’s our half a year anniversary, though. It’s... a bit stupid for me to forget about it.” Dino still sounded guilty. “I will buy you something soon.” He said finally, gazing at the parcel on his lap. “I will pay you back for this.”

"I know you will. You're sappy like that." Kyouya rolled his eyes. "Open it. Katou Julie was a good boy and got it for me."

“Julie-kun?” There was a surprise in Dino’s voice but he, otherwise, didn’t say anything and simply opened the parcel carefully. He blinked when he saw what was inside. A necklace. It was a simple necklace with black cord and--after lifting the necklace out from its box--a spare silver chain for it.

He took the necklace and held the pendant. It was simple, not surprising because Kyouya always like simplicity, and yet very unique. The Don turned the pendant and his breath caught in his throat when he saw simple two words engraved there in romaji.

It was their names. Dino’s and Kyouya’s.

Dino’s chest was overwhelmed with warmth and love for Kyouya at the moment, he almost afraid he wouldn’t be able to hold the feelings inside. He was speechless for now.

"Mm. At least I can trust him to keep his mouth shut." He watched as Dino opened the gift. "Congratulations. It's your reward for surviving this far."

Dino let out a strangle sound that sounded half chuckle half sob and he took a deep breath. “I think you deserve to be rewarded for surviving this far more than me, Kyouya.” he lifted his head to gaze at Kyouya, his eyes full with warmth and love. “Thank you.” For the gift, for staying with Dino for this whole time and just for existing, maybe.

"Hm." He was trying to figure out what Dino thought of the gift. Not that he cared, of course. Just curious. "I'm hard to kill, and you're the one engaged to a monster."

“A very beautiful monster.” Dino found a soft smile, one that seemed only reserved for Kyouya. “This necklace... it’s very pretty, Kyouya. The words engraved on the back-- are you the one who chose them?” It was a silly question, because of course Kyouya was the one who chose them, still Dino wanted to know.

"Yes. Katou only did the part with walking out and buying it, I made all the decisions."

“May I ask why you chose our names?”

"It seemed like the logical choice," Kyouya murmured. "The pendant by itself would mean very little."

“So this is a new mark that shown I’m yours, hmm?” Dino sounded very happy as he said that. A little bit too happy, perhaps.

"If that's how you want to see it." As though he needed any more such claims. Dino was already carrying not only his ring, but also his mark on his skin.

Dino only chuckled before he wore the necklace. The pendant fell just a little bit below his collar bones. It felt right and once again Dino could feel the familiar warmth in his chest.

“Half a year... Time surely passes by.”

"Mmm. And just think, we've only had one major fight." What? He thought it was quite well done, given his temper.

“Yes, and none involved physical harm. I’d say we’ve been doing really well.” Dino very much agreed with Kyouya’s words.

"Mm, I don't know. I'm pretty sure I still have a mark on my knuckles for hitting the wall."

Dino flinched. He remembered their one fight very well. “Really?”

"See for yourself." Kyouya showed his hand. There were plenty of tiny scars on his hands, some almost faded away, some fresh. "That one right there. It's from that time." He paused. "Better the wall than your skull, I suppose. That would have been a mess."

Dino took a hold of Kyouya’s hand, observing the scars there and, once again, he felt guilty. His fingers trailed the scars Kyouya had shown to him softly. “I’m sorry.” He said in a small voice. That’s all he could say now, considering that their fight had happened months ago.

"I know." It was all he could say.

They fell silent for a moment, Dino just holding Kyouya’s hand gently and seemingly drowned in the memory before finally he sighed softly. “It’s a really good thing we survived. I guess ‘surviving gift’ does sound more appropriate than ‘half a year anniversary gift’.” He chuckled.

"Certainly more appropriate for me to give it." Kyouya gave him a small smirk. "Even if I've worked harder to survive than you have."

“I will have to give something more valuable for your hard work, then.” He was half joking. Dino didn’t like remembering that Kyouya almost didn’t survive.

"Eh. Don't run out of ideas, though; you'll still need to have something to come up with when you forget our first actual anniversary."

“I won’t forget about it!” Dino said, half affronted.

"Don't swear on it." Smirk.

“I’m sure I won’t forget about it.” Dino pouted. “Do you want to bet on it?”

"You should know better than to make any bets with me."

“I’ve won some bets from you. I especially remembered one particular bet that I’ve won.” His gaze fell to Kyouya’s bare left ring finger, remembering the exact ring that usually rests there.

"Oh, I am well aware." It wasn't like he could forget. "That was a different matter, though."

“A bet will be interesting, though, don’t you think?” Was Dino pushing his luck? Well, yeah, maybe he was. A little bit.

"Hm. What do you want to bet?"

“If I win the bet, we’ll spend the whole day together. I will bring you to someplace of my choice.” He didn’t even need to think about it. “If you win... I’ll do whatever you want for that one day.”

"I want that in writing." It was still half a year away, after all.

“Deal. I will ask Romario to bring the necessity later on today.” Dino smiled, a little bit arrogantly. “I’m sure this will be interesting, Kyouya.” he almost purred.

"Life with me is always interesting, Bucking Horse." Now why was Kyouya smirking as though he was the one at advantage?

Dino chuckled at that and, almost unconsciously, he had leaned closer to Kyouya. “That’s very true. My life has certainly be more interesting since you enter it.” Quite forcefully, too, with the strike of tonfas as his first greeting.

"You're the one who pushed himself into my life." With that damn whip, too.

“I’m not! Reborn told me to.” Dino countered and he was so close to Kyouya, now, he could not resist the temptation of those lips anymore and he caught those supple lips in a not-so-sweet kiss.

"I didn't invite you, though." Kyouya returned the kiss with ferocity.

Words were no longer necessary. At least it could wait until a little longer while Dino focusing his attention to those lips that returned his kiss just as enthusiastically. The blond Don nibbled on Kyouya’s lower lip, requesting--because he could never demand anything from Kyouya--entrance to the sweet cavern.

Kyouya parted his lips, his arms reaching to hook behind Dino's neck, holding him close.

This man was his, damn it.

If Dino could read Kyouya’s mind, he would certainly say that he didn’t want it any other way. As it was, though, Dino’s mind was blissfully blank as he slipped his tongue into Kyouya’s warm mouth and explored the cavern he had known so very well. His hands caged the dark haired man’s face and caressed the soft cheeks softly--fondly.

Kyouya allowed him to explore for a moment before he made an initiative to take control of the kiss. He wasn't some delicate little heiress who would sigh and swoon in Dino's arms. If he couldn't make the blond breathless, he wasn't really trying.

It was all as well. Dino was used with fighting with Kyouya. Not seriously, perhaps, and never really life threatening, but he was used with the way the dark haired man returned his attacks with equal force and, to be honest, he thought it was one factor why he loved Kyouya so very much.

So, Dino welcomed Kyouya’s initiative and worked to fight it back too.

Now, this was much better. He enjoyed their interactions so much more when it was an equal struggle for dominance. One of Kyouya's hands tangled itself in Dino's hair, holding him even closer.

One of Dino’s hands moved to Kyouya’s nape and rested there, not actually holding the man in place, but resembling some kind of control. Their fight was tight as both of them were not the type who would give in. After a moment longer, though, Dino’s lungs were screaming for oxygen and he pulled away from Kyouya, breaking the kiss.

Panting, the blond man just gazed at Kyouya, smiling softly when he saw the man’s expression. “If I don’t know you’ll be angry, I’d say you’re very pretty at the moment, Kyouya.” Only, he had practically said it, hadn’t he?

"You are an idiot, Bucking Horse." So why was Kyouya's tone so soft?

“So you’ve told me so very often.” Dino chuckled. “Not once I’ve ever regretted being an idiot when it concerns you.”

"Even when your being an idiot has made me angry?" It had happened more than once.

“Those times, I can learn from my mistakes and idiocy. So, in a twisted way, I think I didn’t regret it.” Dino shrugged. “I can try and not being so idiot afterwards, after all.”

"Good boy." And for that, Kyouya kissed him again.

Dino certainly didn’t mind the kiss and he would deepen it again if he didn’t remember that Kyouya was still recovering. So he settled for a light kiss instead. “You know, I should be angry because you said it as if I was a dog, but I can only feel glad you praise me.” he shook his head. “I’m helpless, huh?”

"Silly thing." Kyouya grinned. "You should know by now that most dogs rank over most humans in my eyes."

That statement was so true that it made Dino laughed. “True. So I’m fortunate, then.”

"More than you realize." Dino was the one person Kyouya ranked over even the cutest of animals. Not that he'd ever say that aloud.

“I hope my luck won’t run out anytime soon, then.” Dino said with a smile.

"Well, I am partial to keeping you in one piece."

Dino laughed. “That’s good for me.” He said after his laughter had subsided. The older man then gazed at his younger lover with a soft smile. “I hope we can be together for years, Kyouya. Happy anniversary.”

"Technically it's not anniversary, as that is an annual event." Smirk.

“Who cares about technicalities? I certainly am not.” Just so he could erase that smirk from Kyouya’s face, Dino kissed him again.

"Says the man who forgot about it completely."

“Ukh. You will certainly not letting me forget about that, huh?”

"I told you. I did not expect you to remember."

“Stop remembering me about that, then...” Dino pouted as he folded his arms on his chest. “I’ll certainly remember our anniversary from now on!” He said with determination.

"You should if you want to win our bet." Smirk.

“Out of curiosity, if I do lose--although I have no intention to lose--what do you want me to do for that whole day, Kyouya?”

"It's half a year away and you won't even give me a minute to think about it?" Kyouya clicked his tongue. "So cold, Cavallone."

Dino chuckled. “Well, I guess I will have to be ready for a surprise if I do lose, hmm?”

"Or maybe, you know, I might come up with an idea some time during the next six months."

“Will you tell me your plan once you have one, then?”

"Maybe. Unless I decide I'd prefer it being a surprise."

“I will wait, then.” Dino said with a smile. “It’s such a shame I can’t bring you to a dinner in a fancy restaurant today.” He continued with a sigh.

"Believe me, I would rather be in a restaurant, however crowded, than be still stuck here."

“That’s new.” Dino couldn’t help but to chuckle. “Too bad we can’t go outside.”

"You're glad I'm so sick of being cooped up inside I would even stand herbivores? Such an insensitive fiancé I have."

“I said ‘that’s new’, Kyouya. There’s not even one ‘glad’ word above there!” Dino protested.

"You did say 'too bad we can't go outside', which implies you're happy with this state of things." Kyouya wasn't angry, though. Not too much so at least.

“I thought saying ‘too bad’ meant you don’t like something.”

"Idiot. Basically you were saying you don't like not being able to go out right now, and as thus, you would like to take me to a situation where I feel uncomfortable, because the fact that even that would be better than being locked in here somehow makes that all okay."

“Ah. I will note that.” Dino murmured. “...Actually, I’m still kind of confused.” he said after a brief pause and he ran a hand through his hair. “Oh, well! Since we can’t go out, how if we ordered some fancy foods to be delivered here instead?”

"I'm fine with that." Not like the hospital staff would dare say anything.

Dino’s face brightened when he heard Kyouya’s words. “Great! I will make sure to order the best foods for our dinner today!” He said enthusiastically.

"Why do you look like a puppy who just got a treat?" Kyouya asked, somewhat incredulous. "Did you think I would object to having a nice dinner?" Even if it would be less than fancy simply by the fact he had to eat in bed.

“Well, I just want to see this dinner as something special, that’s all.”

"Well, we'll have to forgo candlelight at least; I'm fairly sure that would go too far against the hospital rules." Not that he could see why live fire would be inherently "romantic", anyway.

“I’d love to order some really good wine, but I don’t think you’d like it so we’d have to forgo that too.” Dino chuckled lightly.

"I have nothing against the existence of wine. I just know better than to consume it."

“Drinking wine by myself is not too fun, though,” Dino shrugged. “well, rather than wine, maybe we can order fresh juices as our beverage.” He suggested happily.

"Whatever." A yawn escaped him. "See? You're boring company."

“Yet you are still with me up until now,” Dino shot back with a grin. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop talking so you’ll be able to nap peacefully.”

"Good." Another, smaller yawn. "And when I wake up, I want food."

“Full course and very delicious foods will be here when you wake up, I promise~!”

"See to it." He sought a more comfortable position, eyes sliding shut, the closed DS still in his lap.

Dino only smiled before he took the DS from Kyouya’s lap and put it on the bedside table so that it wouldn’t fall when Kyouya was asleep already. “Sleep tight, Kyouya.” He said.

"Be quiet," came the last murmur before Kyouya slipped off to sleep.

Dino obeyed Kyouya’s request by not saying anything in return and sat back down on his chair. He pulled out his hand phone and started typing orders for Romario and his men. He’d need the foods to arrive once Kyouya wakes up, after all.
