Dino sat on one of the couches in his shared room with Kyouya, patiently waiting for the younger man to return after his class. He was glad Kyouya had returned, but there was something that made him worry, namely the argument Kyouya had with Squalo on his journal’s comment.
He hadn’t dared to interfere at that moment, afraid his words would only make the arguments worse, but now he thought he should say something on the matter. Only to clear the misunderstanding that might exist from that argument. He just wasn’t sure this talk would be a nice one. Hopefully, Kyouya wouldn’t be mad or tease him too much about the matter.
Kyouya did return soon enough, though as he came to the door he paused, Dino's expression making him halt. Then, he shook his head and stepped in, closing the door after himself. "What is it?"
Hearing Kyouya’s voice, Dino lifted his head and a smile automatically appeared on his face as his eyes landed on his lover’s figure. “Kyouya! Welcome back. How was your class?” Dino asked as he stood up and walked closer to Kyouya to give the man a welcome kiss.
"Just get it over with." Kyouya rolled his eyes.
“Can’t I greet my lover properly first?” Dino asked with a sigh before finally he relented. “Well, alright. It’s about the argument you had with Squalo … I hope you’re not offended by his words back then.”
"And why are you apologising in his place?"
“Because he’s my friend and I don’t want you to misunderstand his words, of course.” Dino thought it was quite obvious.
"So what is there to misunderstand, exactly?"
“Squalo doesn’t really care that much about me. I’m sure he really was only annoyed by my whining,” a thin smile appeared on Dino’s face. “You know how I am. I won’t be able to hold myself from whining and he was the only person who would still listen to my whines without seriously harming me while you were away.”
"Considering that I know how badly you can whine, that alone proves that he cares for you." Kyouya walked further into the room, loosening his tie before tugging it off.
“He might care about me, but it’s only because we’re old friends, Kyouya. Nothing more. Squalo always hates it when I say he cares about me, anyway.” Dino sighed before walking back to the couch and sat down, his eyes still following Kyouya’s form.
"Well, obviously he's more concerned with your happiness than I am." He next took off his suit jacket, settling it on the back of his chair.
“Well, I’m happy when I’m with you, so he shouldn’t be concerned any longer,” Dino said in low tone before sighing and racking his hand through his blond hair. “You’re not seriously thinking it’d be better if I marry him, are you?”
"Why don't you ask him? He obviously knows your needs and wants better than I. Never mind your rights."
Dino was silent for a while. When he spoke his next words, it was with hesitation clear in his voice. “Are you jealous of Squalo, Kyouya?”
"I'm furious with him. Does that count?"
“Why are you so furious with him?” Dino’s eyebrows furrowed. He couldn’t understand what made Kyouya so very upset with Squalo.
Kyouya frowned. "I can understand annoyance, Cavallone. I know damn well how annoyed you can be when you start whining. I would understand if he complained to me, told me off for it, even challenged me to a fight for making him listen to your whining. However, when he takes it upon himself to tell me my duties and obligations as your fiancé, I do take offense."
“... I’m sorry. He can be really rude at times, I know,” Dino sighed before turning his gaze to his lap, considering what he should tell to Kyouya. “I think he’s just so upset at me. He always says that I’m too soft for my own good and, well, perhaps that’s why he takes it upon himself to say those words to you. He just doesn’t understand about us, Kyouya. I don’t think he’d ever understand.”
"If he's upset at you, why is he turning to me?" Kyouya gave Dino a glare. "He's right. You are too damn soft. But I hardly think the solution is trying to fight in your place."
Dino shrugged warily. “I can’t tell you what’s going on in Squalo’s head, Kyouya, because I don’t understand it myself. He might be telling you those things because I dismissed him when he said those words to me.”
"Or because he's just that worried about whether you're going to have a happy marriage." Such idiocy.
That statement managed to draw a chuckle from Dino. “Nah. Squalo is not that silly. I’m sure he doesn’t have any image of a happy marriage in our world.”
"He certainly has some images, considering the conviction with which he attacked me for not fulfilling his image of a proper fiancé."
Dino sighed. “I would hate to see you two finally meet.” He murmured warily.
"Why? Lost your good funeral suit?"
“I don’t want any of you to die so soon, Kyouya! Furthermore, I don’t want the two of you trying to kill each other!” Dino was close to tearing his hair apart. “Ah, geez! I have no idea you and Squalo will be fighting over such a small matter!”
"Small matter? You are calling this small?" Kyouya gave him an incredulous gaze. "There is nothing small about this, Cavallone. He thinks he can tell me what to do and how to act regarding the relationship between you and me."
“But you don’t really have to listen to him, right? It’s not like his words would change anything about our relationship. You’re still the one I want to marry. I still don’t care if you have to go away without any words to me again. So why are you taking his words so seriously?”
"He is your oldest friend, Cavallone. Do forgive me if it annoys me that he thinks it's within his rights to criticise me for such matters."
“... You know, it almost feels like you two are fighting over me. Should I feel flattered?” Dino resisted the urge to roll his eyes.
"What is there to feel flattered about?" Kyouya raised his eyebrows. "I thought you were quite tired of my habit of picking fights with everyone."
“Oh, I am. I especially don’t like the fact that my oldest friend also seems intent to pick a fight with my fiance by a rare show of caring,” sighing, the blond man stood up and walked up to Kyouya’s side. He gazed at his lover before tilting his head. “This time, though, I think it’ll actually be better if the both of you settle this matter down in a way you seem fit.” He knew he would never be able to change Kyouya’s or Squalo’s opinion about each other, after all.
"...You know what ways I see fit to deal with people who try to force their will upon me."
“I know and in the case of you two, I think there will be no other way to solve this problem,” Dino grinned wryly. “Just promise me you will settle it inside the university’s ground, okay?” So there would be no one dead.
"So you have lost your funeral suit." Nevertheless, Kyouya found his lips twitching.
“I haven’t. It’s just being put on the lowest part of my clothes somewhere and I don’t like to search for it. Not anytime soon.” Dino shrugged lightly.
"I am capable of beating people up without killing them." And though he wouldn't admit it aloud, there weren't many people he would still insist on killing if Dino asked him to leave them alive. It just wouldn't have been worth the trouble.
“I know. I also know that you’re capable to keep yourself alive even if your opponent is Squalo,” Dino reached out his hand to cup Kyouya’s face gently. “Just try to not injured yourself too badly, alright?”
"I always aim to avoid damage."
Dino’s gaze went to Kyouya’s arm, knowing that the damage there hadn’t fully healed yet. “Yet you won’t be able to avoid all damages,” he sighed. “I’ll be ready with sun boxes when you and Squalo finally meet.” He finished in wry amusement.
"Never said I could. Just that you don't have to tell me to try to survive."
“I don’t think I’ll be able to do that, though. It’s obvious I’ll always ask you to be careful. Even when I know you always fight to survive.” Dino stepped closer until he was chest to chest with Kyouya.
"That because you are an idiot." His words were soft, though.
“Lately, I’ve been called an idiot or sentimental fool. When will I be called with some good nick name, hm?” Instead of giving Kyouya time to answer, though, Dino place his lips upon Kyouya’s in a soft kiss.
Kyouya couldn't help but smirk into the kiss. "When you earn a good name, Bucking Horse."
“Hm, I rather like to be called as omnivore,” kiss. “or Bucking Horse is fine too, already.” He finished before nibbling on Kyouya’s lower lips.
"I could call you a rat. Or a skunk, or a pig, or maybe a bear or a wolf if I'm feeling generous. They are all omnivorous, after all." Kyouya returned the nibble before adding, his tone almost teasing, "As are, of course, hedgehogs."
“Anything but the first three animals, please,” Dino wrinkled his nose in slight disgust. “I’m sure I don’t look anything like a rat, a skunk or a pig.”
Kyouya couldn't help but chuckle. "Well, good for you I have something of a fondness for hedgehogs."
Now a sincere grin appeared on Dino’s face. “I’m flattered. Although, I’m sure Roll will not like to hear me being called as a hedgehog by you. She might get jealous.”
"Oh, Roll knows I'd never love you as much as I love her." Still teasing.
A chuckle. “Oh, but I know you love me in such a different way with how you love her. I don’t mind to lose as long as I get that special love from you,” hands moved to encircle Kyouya’s waist as Dino claimed his lover’s lips in yet another kiss. “Diletto.”
Kyouya traced his hands along Dino's arms and shoulders, coming up to his hair. "Koibito."
Dino gazed at Kyouya’s dark eyes for a moment before his lips twitched and he finally let out a soft chuckle. “I’ll be damned, looks like Squalo was right,” he whispered before hugging Kyouya tightly. “I am hopeless whenever I’m with you.”
"You're always hopeless." And as such, it was only right of him to pull Dino into another kiss before he could say something idiotic again.
Dino certainly welcomed the kiss and he returned it passionately. One of Dino’s hands move up to Kyouya’s hair, gently caressing the dark strands he loved so much and inwardly grateful Kyouya didn’t actually cut his hair the night he returned.
Kyouya held Dino's head close to himself as he continued the kiss, passionate, possessive. At last he drew back for a breath. "Nobody but you and I gets to define what our relationship means to either of us," he murmured.
“Yes. After all, other people have no business in our relationship,” Dino agreed as he touched his forehead gently with Kyouya’s. Hazel eyes gazed deep into pair of dark black orbs. “Nobody will ever understand it either.”
"Because they are all idiots."
“Do you mean to say that my intelligence is above those idiots?”
"Or maybe you have actually learned something."
“Well, considering that I actually brought my family back from bankruptcy in such short time, I’d say I’m used with learning things that will benefit me. I guess it’s a good thing, huh?” The grin on Dino’s face widened ever so slightly.
"Considering it's kept you alive until now, I'd say so."
Dino only chuckled in return and softly kissing Kyouya’s lips again only because he wanted to. “So, now that we’ve more or less settled your … argument with Squalo, how about a lunch with me, hm? Have you eaten yet?” he asked once they broke away from the kiss.
"Is that a nice way of asking whether I chewed any of the loser kids around here to bits?"
“Of course not!” Although it wouldn’t be too surprising if Kyouya had done that. “I actually mean to ask have you had your lunch yet?”
"No, I haven't. To either question."
“Well, that’s good to hear,” the grin was back on Dino’s face. “So you wouldn’t refuse my invitation to lunch, I believe?”
"Depends on where you plan to eat."
“A cozy Italian restaurant near the university. I know the owner. I will be able to reserve a secluded place for us. Is that good enough?”
"I suppose it will have to do."
Dino gave his lover a brilliant smile for his agreement. “Well, then, let’s go now! I’m quite starving!” With another quick peck to Kyouya’s lips, the blond haired man the moved away in order to grab his jacket.
"Slow down, Bucking Horse. I'm at least going to change into a clean shirt." Because even if he did use exercise clothes for the actual training, he wasn't exactly passive even when wearing his more formal clothes.
“Oh, alright. I will wait for you in the living room then, okay? Don’t take too long, Kyouya!” Dino called back from his place, already walking to the living room after putting on his jacket.
Kyouya murmured a few words about a stupid, overly eager herbivore before unbuttoning his shirt and drawing it off. Choosing a new one and putting it on, he paused for a moment as his fingers reached the top buttons, brushing against the rings he wore on a chain around his neck. Slipping his finger inside them, he focused for a second.
"Why, hello, Roll." Moving to finish the last buttons, he gave a small smirk to the little hedgehog climbing up to his shoulder. "Let's go out to eat, shall we?"
As he waited for Kyouya, Dino decided to peruse the magazine lying on the table, only for the sake of doing something instead of whining.
Kyouya arrived a moment later, raising his eyebrows at the sight. "That bored already, Bucking Horse?"
“Kyouya! You’re done?” Promptly, Dino put down the magazine and stood up, a happy grin on his face as he approached his dearest fiancé. His hazel eyes then caught the small hedgehog on Kyouya’s shoulder. “Roll too! We’re going to take her with us?”
"Yes. She needs a little change of scenery."
“Alright then!” Taking a hedgehog pet to a restaurant was not strange at all, after all. “Can we go now?”
"Far as I'm concerned."
“Great!” If possible, Dino’s grin actually widened before he reached out his hand to Kyouya, obviously expecting the dark haired man to take it and, yes, he was still wearing that idiotic grin on his face.
Kyouya, in turn, rolled his eyes and huffed, but took the offered hand anyway.
Dino chuckled softly by his lover’s irritation, before leading the dark haired man out from the room. He was really quite hungry and he couldn’t wait to taste Miguel’s fettucini. The fact that Kyouya would be there with him for lunch certainly was a really nice benefit.
