Follow me Home...
fate-incomplete | PG | spoilers for season 6 | no warnings | gen
Dean had woken up in a hospital with no idea who he was, just these strange dreams, and a doctor who may be even stranger. As he tries to make sense of his dreams and the memories hidden in them, he wonders if he wants to know the man he used to be. With a little help from a friend, he finds what he needs to get back home.

Written for the spn_gen_bigbang by my fellow reccer, fate-incomplete, this fic is a powerful take on the amnesia trope, exploring the bond that Dean and Cas share really beautifully. I hardly ever read gen of this length, but this fic is an exception for very good reasons.

And I Wake Up Blind, Like My Dreams Were Too Bright
strangeandcharm | NC-17 | no spoilers | no warnings
So what’s a guy to do when he wakes up and finds that his angel’s gone a bit wrong?

This is one of my absolute favorite amnesia fics, so much so, in fact, that I'm really surprised I haven't recced it before. Written from Jimmy's perspective, this fic handles the "vessel problem" better than almost any other fic, and strangeandcharm writes both Jimmy and Cas flawlessly. And the way that Dean and Cas finally get together is just perfect.

A Judicious Application of Free Will
scaramouche | NC-17 | no spoilers | no warnings
Dean lives the simple life in Lawrence, running the family business at Winchester Hardware. When Castiel moves into the neighborhood, they strike up a friendship that has the chance to become something more. But before that can run its course, the secrets of Castiel’s past catch up with them both, and their whole world changes.

This isn't your typical amnesia fic, fitting more closely with the "surprise! it's not actually an AU" trope, and wow, scaramouche does one hell of a job weaving together both the amnesia and the AU aspects seamlessly. Brilliantly plotted and well-paced, this is a really exciting read.

And something that I've recced before (way back when), but will rec again:
How Castiel Got His Wings Back (And What He Did With Them Thereafter)
cloudyjenn | PG-13 | no warnings | no spoilers
The next time Dean sees Castiel after he promises Dean to hold off the archangels, he’s got a new name and a new life. This is the story of how it took both a demon and the power of love to bring Dean and Castiel back together again.

I really love the way this is written; it's fluid and the length is perfect, not to mention the concept is really great. Beautiful story with a sweet ending.
