When Dean was little, his mother would tell him the little angel figurine would take care of him. (A very Supernatural retelling of Vasilisa the Beautiful)
This was very sweet and also understated in a good way, and the slight differences from the canon don't make the world unrecognizable, but do make it fascinating. Castiel's devotion in the second half, and Dean's in the first half, make for a lovely retold fairy tale.
You Wouldn’t Want An Angel Watching Over You

Reccer's summary: After trying to stop a demonic ritual, Dean and Sam discover that Castiel used to be the Greek god Hermes and now that Lucifer is out, Argos is out as well and gunning for Castiel, who killed him.
I liked this for the little moments between Dean and Castiel, and for the excellent Castiel point of view. The plot flows steadily, and its movement from the canon storyline to the alternate one is smooth enough to feel realistic.
