I almost forgot.

I promised Colum I'd post this. Now he probably won't even see it :-p

A fairly bad poem I wrote en route to Orange County from Salt Lake City.

Lightning shrouds the mountains
A dark herald of things to come
As gods and mages number the fallen
And count the damned sum.

A bloody sky is the scene
That sets the tragic stage,
But the actors are fighters and fiends of war;
It's the wicked that name the age.

The clouds swirl and shortly part,
A crying moon is revealed,
But all that's left is the blood stained patch
Where the last of Truth had kneeled.

Obscured again, nought remains
But the battling fiends below,
Life and Grace stomped dead,
And hatred left to grow.

The land's laid waste
Nothing can live where evil runs wild.
The barren Earth can only mourn
The death of her only child.

The war continues to rage on,
No closer to end than when it began
And therein is the fatal flaw,
The vital shortcoming of man.

Neither side is right or wrong
Neither good or bad,
But both show to be evil,
And both raving mad.

The gods are fallen, love is dead
Compassion no longer reigns.
"Purity of Heart" is only a myth,
Nothing of value remains.

The gods are fallen, do not bow
Their power has long been dead
Their Light extinguised with the need
For their hunger for control to be fed.

Scoundrels! Ruffians! You're their equals now;
It's what you've always desired.
No one to look to, no one can save you;
This is the monster you've sired.

So call no more for help;
You can only blame you.
Be resigned to accept your fate:
The fight you fought to renew.

I know it's long. I must apologize for that. it's also poorly written,
I'll apologize for that as well. that's pretty much how I wrote it. I
did change two lines, one because I found it too cheesy for words and
couldn't bring myself to post it publicly, the other because it uses
"Shut up" and doesn't really fit the rest of the poem. I kind of liked
it there, thought the contrast kinda' smacked ya in the face, found it
funny, but Ari's right and it really doesn't work.
