can anyone explain in plain english. what a feed is? what is an RSS feed? and how do you make sure that your blog has a feed? i found information on the web, but i am retarded and can't seem to understand the jargon. thanks.
Basically, if there are some websites you like to visit because there's always something new (either every day, every week, or every month), chances are they all have a feed. So instead of having to go to each website to read the new content, you can read all the new posts from those websites on your LJ or some other RSS feed reader (I like using Sage for Firefox).
For a website's feed? Usually there will be a link that says "RSS." When you click on that -- if you have Firefox -- it will ask you how you want to bookmark it. Or if you have an RSS feed reader/aggregator like Sage (which is a Firefox add-on you can get here), then you use your reader to "grab" the site to add to the feeds you read. (Using Sage as my example, since that's what I use: click on the magnifying glass -- "discover feeds." It will give you a list of links, which may have stuff appended like "Atom 1.0" or "Atom 2.0." That stuff isn't terribly important, I've found, but to be on the safe side, I'll try to pick the links that say "Atom 2.0." Click the button you need to "add" the feed to your list, and you're done. Now you can access the new content at any time when you open Sage to check the websites you visit

thanks for the info. i don't know why this stuff runs circles around me head. i am going to start a blog and i see where it gives you an option to have an RSS feed that seems to be important to get people to read your blog? i am using safari and i think that i can sign up for feed reader through google. until i found out about feeds, yes i am behind the times, today then i was okay without them, but now i must have a feed reader. plus now that i have the ipod touch having a feed reader will make it easier to use. sorry i feel like such an apple hipster, but i just love the ipod touch. i do. but i also have firefox, so i will look into sage. people seem to like that one.
