Harpsichord

Harpschord-y types: If there is a harpsichord that "needs work"--specifically something in the action is swollen and needs filing, causing the keys to stick, is this something I could fix myself--and is it worth spending $500 on a single-manual Zucherman if I need to do this type of work on it?

Hmm. I'm kind of looking at this as a bird-in-the-hand type thing--I'm never going to shell out the money for a *good* instrument, since I'm not (and never expect to be) a harpsichorist. However, having an instrument at home that I can bang through bass lines on and maybe occasionally have rehearsals on (the latter wipes out my piano as useful) would be nice.

The annoying thing is that I wont know the outcome until the work is done, so I kind of have to make the decision to buy it without knowing if it will be usable...
