SCA - University Websites

Nov 29, 2007 10:04

Some of you may not know, but I am now the new Regent of Their Highnesses University of Avacal.

One of the many things on my plate is to get our website up and running with good content.

Question for you all - apart from An Tir's Ithra website, are you aware of any other websites in the Knowne World that manage registrations, keep student and teacher ( Read more... )

thua, help!

huh! I thought Calontir had a system. they must have been using it just for registration, etc. sorry about the goose chase!

other universities:

the western Collegium (doesnt do degrees or registration)
Caid has one but I dont know that they do degrees either

point of interest....Ithra was the first university system in the Known Worlde. how cool is that? :) its even older than AnTir the Kingdom, starting as University of Madrone back in the way back :)

how cool - you trendsetters you!

Our degree requirements are going to be different from Ithra too (way simpler) - I'll tell you all about it when I call you next week.

Thank YOU!

Caid just has pretty barebones page http://www.collegiumcaidis.org/index.html

West has no page.

Interesting...

interesting.. probably way easier to implement too. of course I have NO idea how to get that running on a webserver but that's why we have an amazing webmaster who can set me straight(Hi Raoul!)

thanks!

Something to keep in mind is privacy issues and all of the information that will be going into the database. AB has some of the most stringent privacy of information laws around. If the database is to be kept on line and people have access to that, it could be a concern. At work I get around that by having the form on the web site go directly to me via email and I maintain a database that isn't on the web, therefore no one has access to the information unless they go through me - no privacy law issues.

Just a thought :)

I agree - AB has stringent privacy of information laws. You will probably have to have some sort of "this is what we do with your information" disclaimer on the THUA site. I think having the database private makes sense, probably shared between the web minister & THUA Regent would make things workable. Good luck!!

I do not understand WHY we even do a directory - that's not what I was talking about above - just want something to automate class registrations and have it password protected.

There hasn't been a directory done for years now and I agree, why bother!

I think an automated class registration site that only those with the password to access would be fine. I'd still put a disclaimer on the site where students would be registering - just in case. ;)

It's lovely AND easy to use. The one thing it doesn't have / we don't do is fancy degree requirements - there's the bachelor's/fellow's/master's idea, but that's pure # of classes with no category requirements or anything like that. Not sure that's something you're planning on, but just thought I'd point it out.
