Ugh. So much hate for Cassie Claire actually getting that movie made. Ughhhh.

Also I just realized that the whole Draco Dormiens debacle was in 2001 which makes me feel seriously old. I've obviously been in fandom too long.

I started reading her first one and of course her fic way back then but I couldn't finish it because I hated her so much, lol. I was only casually in fandom back when the whole thing went down, so her asshole-y ways didn't touch me personally, but she's just such a bitch it really makes me angry. I used to be following nastyclare and theclarewitchproject on tumblr but cassandra had those deleted (which is just such a douche-y move it really got me pissed) so I just wish the mainstream media would pick up on the whole plagiarism thing and make the movie flop.

Well, she's got a lot of prominent support in the writing world. She chose her connections well, that's for sure. And she does her best to have all websites/people talking about the plagiarism taken down. It's why most of the documents aren't hosted on Livejournal but on one of the offshoots that don't police things that much.

I know it makes me a bad person but I actually want to see that movie and I loved the books /o\

I'm genuinely ashamed. like, I know she's a plagiarist (even though I wasn't around for that 'debacle') and apart from that she's apparently not a decent person (? idk, ontd is my source on that, and as fabulous as most of them are, they're not exactly unbiased) but I still *really* like the series even though they're so fanfic-ish and juvenile and trashy.

lol, well, i wouldn't say it makes you a 'bad' person. That would be too harsh. That's reserved for Cassie herself. And maybe Heidi. And maybe Holly Black because she's to blame for Claire getting the book deal but I just can't hate on her because I love the Spiderwick Chronicles. And I personally don't usually care about what other people think of the books I like so I really wouldn't worry if I were you. (I love reading Meg Cabot books as long as they're not the Princess Diaries. I even love her recent series which is basically Persephone/Hades fic and most entertaining. NO SHAME

I haven't read the trilogy (although, tbh, I did manage to find the pdfs and save them to my hard drive bc I was curious, but I haven't been able to bring myself to read them), but I have seen posts about people talking about one-liners and plot points in the book that she lifted right from her fanfic, and yeah. that definitely happened. there's this one specific case I remember where someone took and excerpt from the trilogy in which Draco was talking about having a pet falcon and put it up against an excerpt of Jace (from TMI) talking about having a pet falcon, and it was pretty much spot on. It really bothers me, knowing her past, but I think if it were a different author I wouldn't find it so sketchy for them to reuse their own material...but she doesn't have a good track record.

lol, Heidi is Cassie's Beta-Reader/Lawyer/Biggest Fan Ever. So yeah, she was pretty involved in the things that happened.

the worst thing about the avalon high adaption was that I really, really love Britt Robertson but the movie was just so terrible even she couldn't save it

I've got the exact same problem with Benedict Cumberbatch. I enjoyed his Sherlock until he opened his mouth and it became clear to me what an entitled asshole he was. ugh.

ugh, it's not even the fact that she's supposedly a nasty person that i'm also so annoyed about all this. ofc there's the plagiarism/fic issues and whatnot, but she can't even write well! it annoys me how out of all of the people in fandom, she was the one to go and get famous with a film adaptation and everything, when there's so many nice, honest and amazing writers in fandom out there.

and i can't believe robert sheehan's in it. to be honest, i feel the film will be 1000x better than the books, but still. it irritates me.

That casting irks me so much. It's like when somebody told me Matt Bomer is supposedly auditioning for a role in 50 Shades and I felt like puking up my breakfast. On the one hand I want this movie to flop -- on the other hand there's actors I love in it...

I haven't touched the Draco Trilogy since the plagiarism thing broke (and I'm not sure I finished it? Can't remember the ending at all...) and I never even made it through her first published book so I can't say anything about them. I just really want her career to tank, or at least for the mainstream media to call her on her bullshit. But I highly doubt that's ever going to happen now. Not as long as she's got friends in high places and a bunch of rabid fans.

i seriously just can't get over how out of everyone in fandom, cassie clare and l.j smith got published. like, what? i just want to whack whoever published their books over the head with their own copies. honestly.

Same. I hate Cassandra Claire/Clare and I hope TMI flops big time. I mean Eragon style flopping in the box office.
She's cold-hearted and she uses her supporters to get her things and contracts and deals and items and ugh!
I could go on and on about how I dislike her.
