I stand in the stillness, barely daring to breathe. The world is silent around me. The only thing moving is the wind through the barren trees. The ground beneath my feet is wet from the rains, it is at peace and soon it will slumber. I watch as remaining leaves fall from the trees to the forest floor. They too are silent, almost as though they don’t want to break the peace of this moment. How long do I stand there? I don’t know for I lose all sense of time and even of my identity. While I am there, in that sanctuary of the forest, all that I am or what people want from me doesn’t matter. All that matters is that the stillness remains - for if it is broken, the power of the old gods will once again be broken and I will have to return to reality.
