Chapter Nine:

Since last night I haven’t stopped smiling. Misaki had asked me to be his girl! I was so excited I wanted to fall over and roll around in my happiness. But then I remembered something, no one knew about this. No one at all… well besides me and Misaki. So I’m taking this chance to find Mirai, who it seems like I haven’t seen in a decade, to tell her the wonderful news. Where is she anyways?

I went to her room and she had her room phone off the hook next to her as she was sleeping. She was probably up late talking to Ryunosuke. God she likes him too much.

“Mirai,” I whispered in her ear.

“Uwaaaaaaa~,” she groaned and rolled over. “It’s too early… for waking… up.”

“Then I guess you don’t want to hear how Misaki asked me out last night,” I said sighing and sitting on her bed.

“What?!” she shot up and grabbed me by the shoulders. “Tell me everything!”

“Alright, alright! Just don’t kill me!” I exclaimed.

She sat up and stared at me intensely.

“Okay so here’s what happened,” I started pausing for ‘dramatic’ effect. “After the whole Yuri almost drowning thing-”

“Yuri almost drowned?!” Mirai interrupted.

“Where the heck have you been?!” I yelled.

“Ryunosuke called yesterday because he stayed home sick,” she answered sheepishly.

“Yeah well Yuri almost drowned and after that I went inside,” I said. “Then later last night I went looking for someone to talk to and found Ryosuke who told me Misaki wanted to talk to me. So-”

“You talked to Ryosuke?!” she interrupted again and I threw my hands up in the air in annoyance. “I’m sorry, go on.”

“As I was saying,” I said. “I went to see Misaki and he took me out to the lake and it was a pretty night last night. Then he looked me in the eyes and said: ‘I like you, and I want you to be my girl’.”

“He said that?” she asked giddy that I was getting a love life.

I nodded and we giggled for a few moments. Suddenly I heard the door click open and I turned to see Yuri there with Yuto and Keito behind him.

“What’s up?” Keito nodded and I could hear Mirai stifle a laugh.

“What are you guys doing up this early?” I asked as Yuto eyed the clock and I looked back to see it was eleven thirty.

“Yeah um… we were talking to some of the guys and they said they wanted to head into town. So what do you guys think?” Yuto asked as Yuri came over and sat next to me.

“Into the town?” I asked. I know stupid question, but also the first to come to mind.

“We’re going to go eat!” Yuto exclaimed happily.

“And to sight see!” Yuri also exclaimed.

“See what?” I asked. I mean really there’s nothing to see here. The best sightseeing was yesterday when Ryosuke and I went to the meadow.

“See the town!” Yuri seemed happy to get to go somewhere.

“But there’s nothing to see here!” I said. “It’s pretty much the same as a regular town except it’s probably smaller.”

“Come on it’ll be fun!” Mirai exclaimed then started to whisper in my ear. “And this way you and Misaki can run off together and be by yourselves.”

I started to blush as Yuri looked at me funny. I got up and started to leave the room.

“Let’s go to the town you guys!” I exclaimed pumping my fists into the air.

The four cheered behind me and we started to get ready to head into town. I was wearing shorts and a grey cardigan sweater and black converse and carrying a large black tote.

“We should eat first!” Yuto said as we were walking by a takoyaki stand.

“All you think about is eating!” Sayuri from class pushed his head. “Try thinking about losing weight and not gaining it.”

I smiled at their silliness and looked around for Misaki to see him chatting happily with Natsumi about something. I won’t lie it did make me jealous and cause a frown to form upon my face as I watched her touch him carelessly on the arm and when he ruffled her hair playfully.

“Chae Ri?” Yuri looked at me then inquired. “Are you alright?”

Suddenly Misaki’s head turned back to me and he seemed to not be listening to what Natsumi was saying but straining to hear us.

“I’m fine,” I smiled softly trying to hide my jealousy.

“You positive?” he asked.

“Oh yeah totally fine,” I waved but I think from his worried expression he didn’t believe me.

“Chae Ri,” Misaki walked back to me and wrapped one of his arms around my waist as we were walking. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine,” I said my smile must’ve been genuine because he didn’t press anymore about it.

I know it may be selfish of me to get jealous but I wasn’t really acting all pouty… was I? Oh geez I’m such a failure. I’m a selfish failure that deserves to eat worms… Great.

I hadn’t realized but we started to trail behind the group of people and suddenly Misaki pulled me down another street and pushed me against the wall of a building and looked around the corner to check if the coast was clear. He was really close, so close I could feel the warmth of his body and smell the nice cologne he had on.

“Chae Ri?” I looked up at him snapping out of my day dreams.

“Yeah?”

“Let’s go have fun,” he smiled grabbing my hand and leading me away from the path the class had taken.

We had walked for a good ten minutes when I started to wonder where we were going to go. I mean where do you usually go with your boyfriend? Wait! Am I at the stage where I can call him my boyfriend? Oh I’m so confused…

And because I was confused I hadn’t noticed we were on an overhang over the lake and there was a blanket strewed out on the ground with a large picnic basket. I smiled as Misaki sat me down and started to pull out food from the basket.

“Omo this is so cute,” I giggled as he pulled out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the shape of hearts.

“I made them especially for you,” he said as I took a bit out of it.

It was the best peanut butter and jelly sandwich I have ever tasted.

“Do you like it?” he asked a smiled creeping on his lips.

“It’s perfect,” I smiled.

When we were done with our food we lied down next to each other. My head was resting on his shoulder and his arm was wrapped around me.

“Thank you Misaki,” I said suddenly.

“You’re welcome,” he sighed in content.

I smiled and closed my eyes; it was quiet for a long while. But we didn’t need to talk, the silence said it all.

“Chae Ri,” I opened my eyes and looked up at Misaki. His face was inches from mine.

I waited patiently for him to lean in and closed my eyes again. Suddenly I felt the pressure of his lips on mine. It was sweet and warm, and I never wanted it to end.

“Chae Ri! Misaki!” the both of us pulled apart and sat up as we saw Yuri running toward us.

“There you two are!” Yuto was with him.

“Where have you two been?” Yuri demanded an answer.

“Here,” Misaki answered with a tone that sounded like it should’ve been obvious.

“Ms. Lee said that we should be heading in for dinner now,” Yuto informed.

Misaki and I stood up from the ground and he picked up the basket and slid his hand in mine. Yuri and Yuto looked at us for awhile then Yuri started to have a knowing expression.

“Oh… it seems we were interrupting something Yuto,” he said.

“What?” Yuto said oblivious to what he was interrupting.

“If you two wanted to have a date you could’ve just told us,” Yuri said.

“Shut up Yuri,” I said bluntly.

“You two were on a date?!” Yuto asked surprised.

“Yuto…” Misaki looked at him with a disappointed expression.

hey! say! jump
