I remember
The grass sliding between my toes
The soft kiss of the morning dew
My worries flying away with the breeze

I remember
Big open clearings
Chasing the cat
Tag, You’re it, and Make-Believe
There was no such thing
As you can’t do that

I remember
Around the block
Look no hands!
Skating the neighbor’s lawn
Running so fast
Not looking back
To see that everything was gone

I remember
Hot cocoa
Winter’s cold
Freezing Breath
Chills crawling up my back
Bundled up in Igloos

I forgot
Autumn’s audible ambiance
Summer’s seductive songs
Spring’s silent Serenade
Winter’s wonderful Waltz
As I’m growing older
I’m finding myself letting go
Of what I once held so dear

I refuse
To let go
I’m growing older
But I refuse to be old
I keep trying to hold on
To the simple things
I use to know

I crushed the yellow flowers
Petal by petal beneath my toes

When you needed me the most
I promise you
I will stand strong
