To All Our Hurricane Katrina Angels...

...may your efforts be fruitful and your journey blessed. Our love and support are with all those touched by Hurricane Katrina's destruction.

By the way, have any of you heard that relief money was actually available for New Orleans but was Diverted to the War effort in Iraq? Does anyone know more about this and care to extrapolate?

Love, V.

What I have heard is that Bush cut funding for NO levee improvements by 44% right around when he was getting more money for Iraq.

However, I haven't seen actual documentation of that claim yet...

Yes, this is pretty much what happened...although Bush claims there's enough funding for both situations. The same clip of him embracing two young girls is on constant replay.
The whole thing is so miserable.

Thanks so much for this helpful link...
I'm going to stay out of the finger-pointing controversy, because I don't know enough about the sitation; I was watching the news this morning and saw Bush explaining that we have enough resources for both the war and this disaster.
The hardest part about this entire situation is that the relief is too late coming for most.

Bush might have done that but lets remember that this problem of the levys has been around since 1718 when the city was first founded by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne. His own engineers told him that the problem of flooding was there. So for the past 287 years nothing has been really done about it.

I heard that there was a statistic claiming that Hurricane Katrina was one of the 3 most likely crisises that could happen, but the diversion of money happened instead; so people are furious. There's been talk that they might not even rebuild New Orleans!!! UGH.

Why thank you!
I'm so glad that I got to go to New Orleans before this devastation, it's the one thing I'm truly grateful for.

i haven't heard much about that, but i'm not too suprised...

but what i DID hear about was this girl in florida being pissed at Kanye West for his comments at the Katrina telethon....

http://www.livejournal.com/users/longlostlady/117575.html

that's her LJ post, along with my wordy response. feel free to send her LJ around to any and everyone that will burn her righteously for her socio-economic ignorance and insensitivity, her BLATANT racism, and her idiotic attempt to veil her bigotry by saying something to the effect of, "only the bad black people that complain about things not being fair should go back to africa"

(yeah... this little girl has pissed me off more than Bush and his alleged removal of levy funds for his army man game in the killing fields of Iraq)

OOh..whatever you said may have had an effect on her. She deleted the entry, I couldn't access it. Don't feel badly...you may have taught someone to think before they jump into a river of bigotry.
I've missed you.
